Well I know every tribe has their customs and traditions and it is supposed to be respected, but some of this festivals are really not worth it because they are not pleasant to other people and even some of the community people.
This is not only but a joke but also a true life story that I experienced some years ago.
We all know that the places we call city are some people’s village, so the place we used to stay a few years ago has a this particular festival but before that, this place is well known for fighting themselves almost all the time, but thank God we were not staying in the main town but outskirt of the town, so we weren’t really affected by their fights and gunshots.
But this festival is usually affected by everybody and mostly the people that lived at the outskirts of the town, because they usually come from inside the town and gather on the bridge which was close to where we lived.
On this particular day, the people of the community were hosting the festival which we the non the indegens didn’t know about, this festival is mostly affected by the young girls, from teenagers to youths and even young women. The boys of the community usually manhandle women anyhow, they will just hold a girl down and start pressing and touching their breasts, not just one boy but like 5 to 8 boys.
So I was in my aunties shop which was across the main road, when we saw the boys coming from inside the town, some tied red cloths and wrappers, some held leaves, some were with white wrappers and so on, our neighbors daughter was just at the junction of our street, she didn’t know what was going, and not knowing that some of the boys came through the back and held her tightly and started pressing her breasts seriously, she was shouting for help and crying, I couldn’t believe my eyes, this was funny and at the same painful, it was some of our area boys that came to rescue her and took home, her mother who is deaconess in her church, started praying and sprinkling holy water on her, at some point I couldn’t hold it and started laughing.
That was not all, a guy that was standing with his girlfriend at the junction too, saw the scene and ran away, this guy actually jumped into school compound and left his girlfriend, this boy’s also went to where the girl was and started molesting her, I could believe my eyes, that was when some armies came into the community and started flogging them mercilessly and they ran away.
After the incident, the girl that was left by her boyfriend started crying and swearing not to have anything to do with the guy again because he couldn’t stand by her to protect her.
So many girls and women had been molested with this festival, the only way to escape from it is when you have a baby on your back or when you are an advanced lady.
