What a beleief 😄

I want to use this medium to appreciate @ybanezkim26 for this opportunity given to take up this challenge.

I live in a Nigeria at the south west region in a state called Lagos popularly filled with the yoruba people.
I actually grew up here and have come to notice some of their beliefs which i will be stating here.

The yoruba myth

I had an encounter once where i wanted to fetch water at night and i was not allowed saying i will come to contact with evil spirits. I was so shocked 🤯 even as i tried connecting the dots but could not.
It really still shocks me till today how this belief stands it ground.

This is another belief that got me wondering. How will a child resemble you just because you crossed over his or father or mother while they were lying on the floor ?😂😂 funny right..
It is not even biologically correct.

• 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐮𝐧𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐠𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬

This is another belief commonly known as you are warned even from childhood never to whistle at nigh as ghosts are making passages into realms and you may attract their presence.

I really keep rolling on the floor laughing at these beliefs even as they have no base knowledge or proof.
We were just warned to even believe in them and more i could not state here.
It is lovely to believe in what you know exists, but trust me my environment is fun to belong to.

Ours are usually sunset based. Most activities during sunset seem to be causing bad things to happen here in Iraq lol!

Yoruba and myths en.. I remember when we were still staying in Ogun state. My mum would warned us to whistle in the afternoon.. I asked her why and she said we are automatically calling snakes to come and eat 😂

It is true that there are many beliefs that are instilled in us as a child. For example here in Venezuela, the belief is popular that you should not sweep the house at night, or cut your nails because according to them, only the dead are cut at night. I heard these beliefs as a child too. They don't seem to be phased out for some reasons. I guess it has become one of those things that make us who we are
