My first time flying.
Two weeks back, I started a series on my first time but got too lazy to complete it. Today I shall be taking you on a journey through the first time I performed certain activities.if you want to read about the first episode, a click on this link would take you safely there
The first time i boarded an airplane
Growing up, I was one of those kids that would run after a plane in the sky screaming "aeroplane" and waving my hands wildly in the air. I have always imagined what it would feel like the day I'd finally get to fly in one of those. Last year, an opportunity presented itself and I was so elated. I had my brother-in-law talk me through the various stages of boarding since I was a novice that didn't want to appear as one. I needed to know everything so I can waltz through like a regular😜.

My flight was scheduled for 5:30pm so I left my house by 4pm as instructed by in-law to avoid any unforeseen circumstances that could cause me to miss my flight. Unfortunately it rained and the road to the airport was flooded causing a standstill. I was looking at the airport but couldn't reach it. I started hyperventilating at the thought of missing my flight. Someone suggested I take a bike. The idea was a crazy one since the bikes were driving through the gutters (water channel) but what options do I have? I jumped on the bike and in less than two minutes I was at the airport.

I rushed in and got my boarding pass and headed to the boarding room. At the boarding room, I met a lot of people seated and waiting for the flight to be announced. The voice over making the announcement was a female but I could barely make out what she was saying.
She was forming accent and all I heard each time she came on voice was
"Announcing the arrival of flight ghnsjjauebebiddidienevfffahjjakelkeusgdhsiekej Abuja. Thank you".
How do I know when my flight would be announced with such an accent? Luckily for me, a young man came into the boarding room and sat beside me. He started a conversation with me and I braved up to ask him where he was flying to. Turned out we were both flying on the same flight to Lagos. This helped me to relax since I could easily follow him once he stood up.
The lady on the voice over came on again and the guy stood up and picked his bags. I picked mine and followed him. He turned and looked at me. "Do you also want to use the toilet?" he asked. How do I tell him I thought he was going to board? I just smiled and resumed my seat.
We finally boarded and at take off, I prayed in my native language for the first time . Once the plane was off the ground, I thought of all the possible things that could go wrong. I was so terrified. Nobody told me about turbulence. Each time the plane shook, I said a prayer of forgiveness.

I hated the pilot's voice each time it came on because for some reason, it felt like he was going to say "may day may day or something terrible". I preferred the silence 😄😄😄, it was more reassuring. I held my arm rest so tight and closed my eyes all through the flight. I was a nervous wreck and I forgot all I googled on how to handle first time flying nerves.
I thank God I landed safely. Funny enough, landing wasn't as scary as take off. I was glad to see my sister waiting at the airport. As I shared my experience with her, she couldn't help laughing at me. She told me it was because it was the first time that the second time would be better and true to her words, it was.
What was your first time flying like?
Until i come your way again on The COMedy Rumble), stay happy!
You are already discouraging me ooo, I haven't boarded a plane before. Even the last time I left Nigeria for another country was by land.
A friend boarded a plane to Taraba last year and she narrated her experience immediately after landing, I couldn't help but laugh. It looks like it is always the same for every first timer, I should take a sky diving class first.
Mehn, first time is crazy😄😄. I don't think it is same for everyone though. I was really scared. You want to take Sky diving class first? 😄😄😄 Which one is scarier? Being on air with a covering and being without a covering. I will never attempt that sky diving cos I have fear for height
I have fear of height as well but I usually have the mindset that if I skydive successfully then notice in the world will scare me again.
😂😂😂😂 you see that turbulence thing, it has caused a lot of fear. The annoying thing is nobody tells you about it until you experience it yourself and everybody else on the plane that has experienced it before will just be looking at you like a mad person 😂😂😂... You know they say we attract what we think, I'm just glad that the pilot did not say mayday mayday like you expected it would have been a different story by now.
Nobody tells you my brother. When it happens you are like "What the hell was that?". It feels like gallop in the air, like the plane is about to disintegrate".
My dear I thank God he didn't say it but that was what it felt like each time he came on voice. I guess I have watched too many plane crash movies 😄😄
First time experiencing the turbulence thing would make you feel like a mad person 😂😂😂...you and have the same feeling. Movies are the things that scared me. Even till now, I'm still scared of turbulence
It's all the handiwork of movies. They really make flying seem so scary in some movies.
I remember the first time I flew! I looked through the plane's window the whole time, and wonder to myself, "The plane moves so smoothly through the air and sky! Why?" Great experience!
Thanks for sharing your stories with us!
Yours was so smooth? No turbulence?
I looked through the window at some point and couldn't help but appreciate God's wonderful creatures. The sky was so beautiful but that was for a brief moment though 😄.
Thanks for stopping by.
Yes, very smooth! I have actually experienced very few flies with turbulances. One of those was actually a bit scary. But for the most part all of my flies have been a delight.
Yes, I do that too. It's just amazing!
Awww♥️♥️ I love how you said they've been a delight. Same here for me. Now I love the experience.
🛫✈️🛬😀👍
Since I haven't boarded one before, and I also have this phobia for flight, I am now scared to board a plane. Jeez. Good experience though
Hahhaa! You shouldn't be scared. Although first time you might be scared but don't worry, I can put you through so you'd fly like a pro 😜
Maybe you will when I get the opportunity. 😃
Okay, that is it. You have scared the shit out of me now, because now I don't feel like I want to board an airplane ever, ever in my life. I think that is the reason why nobody tell a story about it.
😄😄😄 that was not the intention of the post. You shouldn't be scared. Nobody writes about it because everyone's story is different I guess. It isn't as scary as I made it seem but it is an experienced you'd love to have.
Yes, I understand you two hundred percent. But who in the world would love an experience that sounds and feels like the coming of death? I don't know about everyone else but I would not. So thank you. I prefer cruising in cars anyway.😉😉😉
Lmao...it is not that bad. My second time was a pleasant experience. I totally enjoyed myself and since then I don't even want to think of travelling by bus. It's been air all the way. How fast it is and the beauty you get to see from up above cannot be compared
I almost fell laughing at this 🤣🤣🤣 oh my goodness! You are a real comedian, every paragraph sent me on another round of laughter.
Do you want to use the toilet too? That cracked me up big time 😂 oh no! The turbulence is a great deal for me to overcome if I would ever muster up the courage to travel on a plane.
I enjoyed the read, how is the fun challenge going for you? I keep having more reasons to engage, this week is ending too quickly or is it just me?
The fun challenge isn't going so well for me. I have been sick all week and barely having enough energy to keep up. I see you everywhere. You indeed wanna grab that counter and nerd title. You didn't come to play girl. Well done!
As for the turbulence, you just have to figure out a way to deal with it. Ijust told myself if the air hostesses can be walking around even with the turbulence then it means it is nothing to worry about.
Oh sorry about your health 😢 I hope you get well already, it's been a whole week 😥
I hope we win, aside the prizes... It's been fun laughing all week 😊
It's been a whole week. I have even completed my dosage yet no relief. I might have to go back to the hospital if it persists.
And you are right, it's been a week of laughter and fun.
Oh that's not good, you will be fine... Doh ❤️
Man this just brought memories😂
It wasn’t my first time but we had slight turbulence that day and what was hilarious was how people were screaming the name of Jesus, I’m just imagining you being one of them 😆
😄😄😄Don't tell me you didn't scream the name also. My dear , turbulence is never funny o..it just goes to show you how much people love life 😄
Internal screaming was what I did 😂
Internal screaming with physical feat 😄😄😄 you were forming baddo
You're amazing!!! I really like your kind of humor! Give me more! Give me more!
Awwww! More you shall get 😄😄
Yessssss!
Thank goodness for the young man who sat beside you😅😅😅. Honestly, i should be last person laughing when I haven't tried flying.
The most I've done is take pictures in a plane on ground. I look forward to having my first flying experience, I know a lot about turbulence on paper, but I don't ever want to experience it in reality.
Oh dear! Just pray your first time will be a white pilot. You see these Nigerian pilots, they seem to enjoy turbulence. Let me give you a hint, take an ear pod along with some cool music you really love. You can thank me later.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you in advance.
You are welcome dear
