Nerd By Northwest #348 – “Embarrassment: It's What Family is For!”

For those young readers who were NOT born before the year 2000... back in those olden days of yore we took pictures with these things called cameras, from which we developed the pictures onto pieces of paper called photographs. And when we had enough of them, we put them in big books called photo albums. So when we wanted to embarrass family or friends, instead of showing the pictures on our phones or sending them to Facebook we whipped out these photo albums.

So in twenty years time when you're hiding from the robot overlords in Grandpa's attic and your kids come across these crazy books in a dusty box, you can now explain what it is while you show them pictures of their Grandpa with his mullet next to his 1985 Pontiac Firebird and some floozy with big hair & Madonna lace gloves that looks suspiciously like Grandma.

Explaining the why of grandpa's mullet? That's beyond any earthly explanation, and so that is all on you I'm afraid. 😉

We have some albums with pics of the kids when they were small before we had a digital camera. You were much more selective of what you shot as each one cost actual money! We didn't waste them on taking photos of our food and crap like that.

So true. And yet at the same time, even despite being able to take nearly endless numbers of pictures nowadays I think most of us had more physical photos on average in the old days as compared to recent years. When you can just view them on your computer or phone right away versus have to develop the film in order to see the pictures, you just don't have the same level of motivation to make physical copies.

Why can’t you trust an atom?
Because they make up literally everything.
