Hi @nathen007 I also answer your comment because I help @fedesox manage the balaenoptera account.
- Setting balaenoptera as a beneficiary is not a requirement to receive support in the community
- 3% beneficiary reward to balaenoptera was decided by the community through a poll where the options were 2: 3% or no beneficiary
- balaenoptera is a no profit account because uses and will use 100% of the rewards it receives from community members to redistribute to the community through initiatives to incentivize content posting and interaction
- balaenoptera has the main goal of increasing the onboarding of new hivers and in particular increasing the number of Italian language content on Hive because there are few of them.
- You can check the nonprofit goal by looking at the baleanoptera wallet from here: https://peakd.com/@balaenoptera/wallet
- this is the contest that distributes rewards collecting balaenoptera and in the future there will be new initiatives: https://peakd.com/hive-146620/@balaenoptera/untoandbisunto-21-contest-decentralizzato-su-olio-di-balena-nuovo-tema-prize-pool-100-hive--vincitori-19-contest--apertura-
Now I come to the point, you wrote:
How about schemes that are less obvious, such as communities receiving benefactor rewards from posters in return for votes such as olio de balena or membership schemes that return upvotes to its members' regardless of post quality, such as SSG.
I did the research you should have done and checked the posts that were published 7 days ago on Odb and went to payout because votes cannot be changed.
This post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did receive balaenoptera vote (7-day-old post)
This post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did receive fedesox vote (7-day-old post)
This post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did receive fedesox vote (8-day-old post)
This post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did receive fedesox vote (9-day-old post)
This post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did receive fedesox vote (9-day-old post)
This post does not have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did receive fedesox vote and also balaenoptera vote (9-day-old post)
This post have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did not receive a vote of balaenoptera (8-day-old post)
This post have balaenoptera as a beneficiary but did not receive fedesox vote (8-day-old post)
I'll stop here, but you can do more in-depth research and see that this situation is constantly repeated
For balaenpotera account this image show that does not vote considering who puts the beneficiary because in the image there are posts (in payout) that all put the beneficiary to balaenoptera but did not receive the vote from balaenoptera
I honestly don't see a scheme
@balaenoptera asks for 3% beneficiary rewards which it distributes 100% to members via a contest where it asks for a post (no ai, original content, proper source citation) and the winner is chosen by the community via a pool
@acidyo asks for 10% beneficiary rewards in the Holozing community to support a project with potential that could bring new users/players to Hive
In my opinion if a community asks for a beneficiary rewards it is not = scheme of abuse
In my opinion it is important how beneficiary rewards are used, and I personally see no abuse in Olio di Balena and Holozing communities.
So @nathen007 are you still convinced of this?
How about schemes that are less obvious, such as communities receiving benefactor rewards from posters in return for votes such as olio de balena or membership schemes that return upvotes to its members' regardless of post quality
Where is the scheme you are talking about?
For @hivewatchers we are not doing anything incorrectly on Olio di Balena community
I tag those who interacted with the comment I responded to:
@pharesim @alex-rourke @acidyo If there are aspects to improve or correct on Olio di Balena community we are absolutely open to advice
This is not exactly true, those funds on @zing.fund can easily be seen as they mainly just go to one of our curators who also moderates the community and handles sharing on web2 (even though just X for now). I think both would be acceptable however but it's not like we'd ignore someone not adding the beneficiary, we'd just ask them to add it so the curator can get some rewards for their time.
Thank you for the clarification but for me even if it was as I thought it would not be a problem because I hope Holozing can bring many new users to Hive.
I personally would love Hive without automatic voting, what I don't like is the accusations without doing research and that's why I tagged you because I know you operate on Hive without doing abuse and to show that beneficiary rewards does not equate to abuse. we on Olio di balena community have created a completely nonprofit contest easily verifiable
As per the balaenoptera wallet, almost all the oncoming beneficiary payments have fedesox votes on them, sometimes anonymous tipu votes too.
Regardless of what the funds are used for, the fact is that there is correlation between beneficiary and upvote. I cannot believe that some of the people who make balaenoptera a beneficiary and who have zero in common with your community or contest are doing this through pure altruism or would continue to do so if they weren't given a juicy vote.
We shared several examples of posts with my votes that have no beneficiary % as well as many posts with the beneficiary % that did not receive my votes, if you're trying to find a non existing pattern you’re wasting time.
Some communities require it or your post might get muted.
