Hello dear friends of Hive! Taking up the opportunity to participate in the contest of my friends of La radio, today I make a #top5 of my favorite animals. I always take advantage of their proposals to think about things that I don’t think about on daily basis, and today's challenge is no exception. Looking for the images and photographs for the post, I realized how much it my perception about animals in captivity has changed and it is something that, besides all the amazing animals and they capacities, I wanted to include on my list. Here it goes!
For me, dolphins are one of the most striking creatures in the sea, mainly because of the family and human-like ties they create, as well as their level of emotional understanding. However, I’ve always been saddened by the living conditions of these animals for mere human entertainment, so before making the decision to go to the natural park where I had the opportunity to swim with dolphins and take this photo, my parents read about the care policies that this place had.
The decision was made and I was able to see first-hand the treatment and the good conditions that the reserve had and thus, meet one of my favorite animals: they were dolphins born in captivity, so they couldn’t be released due to the vulnerability created by the human care; They received no contact from visitors other than the possibility of stroking them, and among many others, as they were not in tanks, they could freely feed on seasonal fish. Nowadays I’ve read much more about the subject and also about responsible tourism, and despite the fact that this place had the appropriate regulations for dignified care, I don’t consider that I would attend any similar activity again, because I wouldn’t be comfortable thinking that despite all the care, these animals are there for my own entertainment.
I’ve always considered that the greatest human motor is love and, however, I believe that this also applies to dogs. The joy, the enthusiastic tail and the songs of happiness made by the barking of dogs will never cease to touch me when, after a long day, they see their owner. Faithfulness and genuine, pure love.
When I was little, it never ceased to surprise me how wise nature is, and the particular ways in which it gives animals a little bit of its knowledge. I particularly thought about this when I saw what in my short experience, were the most social and intelligent birds I’ve known, able to form a bond with their owners as strong as the love a kitten can feel, and as fun as the demonstrations of affection of the dogs.
When I was little I used to have a hard time sleeping, so my mom tried to make bedtime as relaxing as possible. During the week, Mozart, Debussy and the rare whale song, used to accompany me during the week. However, little by little the CD that contained background music with whale songs became my favorite, and that is how these animals became my company night after night, and my favorite ones. I've never had a chance to see them, but I hope, at some point, I can.
I remember that one time, in school, the teacher asked us which animal we would be and why. I had in mind all those that I mentioned previously, cat, dog, dolphin... but as each of the girls in front of me spoke, little by little I was running out of options. Barking, meowing - each of the selected animals made a particular sound, so I tried to think of one that would make the most unique sound of all. However, only one question came to mind, what is the sound that giraffes make? I had never heard a giraffe, so it was the animal I chose. Tall, elegant collars and mute, a good option to be a favorite animal (one that I still keep on that list!).
