The crypto payments are one of OffChain Luxembourg asbl most successful initiatives: after "Indie's" in January, we have last Monday inaugurated a second restaurant, the "Al21" (a predestined name).
In this post, I wanted to go a little bit behind the scenes of this second success.
First of all, Al21 is nicely complementary to Indie's. The latter is a trendy bar-restaurant with an intimate, dim lit and musically rich atmosphere. It caters to people coming to relax and wash the stress of working day away with a pint of beer and perhaps a burger. The former is a clean, well light, small and quiet business restaurant where suit-clad managers come to explore deals and couples come to celebrate special events.
Unlike Indie's, Al21 doesn't use the VivaWallet payment terminals so our dedicated step-by-step for such terminals was of no use here. But that turned out to be a good thing, because we realized that we can break free of the payment terminal completely, as every waiter can in fact accept payment on their own mobile phone with nothing to pre-install.
Besides, although located centrally too, Al21 is in a different neighborhood and sees a lot of pedestrian traffic, thus achieving a great visual reach for the OffChain, Hive and HBD brands (featuring next to the "anchoring" Bitcoin brand)
Here is a movie that shows the neighborhood, a few minutes before the inaugural event began.
Finally, one important advancement our initiative has scored was the solution Al21 has came up with to account for crypto payments, by using an extension possibility in the most widely spread restaurant software to create a dedicated tender labelled "crypto".
We are just getting started and are pretty confident that more restaurants and shops will follow suit and begin accepting crypto payments in Luxembourg.
