Recently, Andriy L. has been working as the head of the "Metal Products" department at the "Epicentr" shopping center in Bucha. Currently, he has the call sign "Fox", and he is awarded "Steel Cross", the honorary badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Since May, Andriy has been defending our Ukraine at the Kherson-Mykolaiv direction. And before that he was in the Kyiv Territory Defense.
Andriy immediately warns that he won't be able to tell me much over the phone, because the enemy listens in on all phone calls. So, we continued the conversation via WhatsApp.
"Fox" recalls with pain: "The Russians killed my intern Dima Chaplyhin, killed the boyfriend of my assistant — Vlad Kornienko who worked as the head of the consumer electronics section. They killed Andriy Verbovyi from the format-cutting department. I just had no other option but to join the armed forces. I wanted to take revenge for our destroyed Epicentr in Bucha, to take revenge for my colleagues."
Not only colleagues are waiting Andriy's from the war. He also has a wife and three children — of 2, 3 and 10 years old. They are abroad now, in evacuation. I asked if Andriy had any thoughts of going with his family, because according to the law, the father of three children is exempted from military service.
"My grandmother and mother live in Nikopol, — Andriy answered. — How could I leave them alone, under the fire from the territory of Enerhodar?"
The defender also says that the situation is, of course, tense, and sometimes the boys sleep for half an hour a day. But the belief in the victory of Ukraine is insurmountable, as well as the motivation to destroy the enemy.

Андрій Л. ще недавно працював начальником відділу «Вироби з металу» торгового центру «Епіцентр» в Бучі. Нині він має позивний «Лис», і нагороджений почесним нагрудним знаком Головнокомандувача Збройних Сил України «Сталевий хрест».
З травня Андрій боронить нашу Україну на Херсонсько-Миколаївському напрямку. А до цього був у київській теробороні.
Андрій одразу попереджає, що багато розповісти мені по телефону не зможе, адже ворог прослуховує всі телефонні дзвінки. Тож переходимо для продовження розмови у WhatsApp.
«Лис» згадує із болем: «Росіяни вбили мого стажера Діму Чаплигіна, вбили хлопця моєї асистентки — Влада Корнієнка, який працював завідувачем секції споживчої електроніки. Вбили Андрія Вербового з форматно-розкрійної дільниці. Я просто не міг не піти до збройних сил. Хотів помститися за наш зруйнований Епіцентр в Бучі, помститися за колег».
Окрім колег, Андрія дуже чекають з перемогою дружина та троє діток — 2-х, 3-х та 10-ти років — вони поки за кордоном в евакуації. Запитуємо, чи не виникало думки в Андрія поїхати із сім’єю, адже, згідно із законом, батько трьох дітей звільняється від військової служби.
«У мене в Нікополі бабуся і мама живуть, — відповідає Андрій. — Як я міг виїхати і залишити їх самих, під обстрілами з території Енергодара?»
Захисник також розповідає, що ситуація, звісно, напружена, і часом хлопці сплять по пів години на добу. Але віра в перемогу України нездоланна, як і мотивація знищувати ворога.
