Bohdan B. comes from a small town of Horodok in Khmelnytsky Oblast, Ukraine. Before engaging in military affairs, Bohdan worked as an advertising manager of one Ukrainian online store. And he is the one who wasn't surprised by Russia's full-scale invasion at all, who knew about the great war in advance, but in fact received the confirmation half a day before it started. "In the evening February 23, 2022, I received a call from the military commissariat and was told to arrive there as soon as possible. So, on February 24, at 9 am, I was already standing on the threshold of the military registration and enlistment office. I was given one hour to collect some stuff from home.
I knew and, to some extent, lived in anticipation of this war — even before the call. After all, the situation in Donbas has dragged on too long, and it needed to be resolved somehow. However, I thought that perhaps the Ukrainian side would be the first to storm, in order to finally knock out Russian troops from the East of our country. Or — that the Russians would try to capture Luhansk and Donetsk regions, and that's where we'd defeat them. But in reality everything happened a little differently…
I was assigned to the missile brigade of Khmelnytsky city. I served there for more than a month. And since our base was a strategically important object, we were waiting for a missile strike every minute. Due to the constant threat, we lived in basements from the first days, and were hiding with every air alarm. Yes, it was scary, but I wanted "it" to fly on us as soon as possible [Bohdan smiles] — because living in constant anticipation of a missile became unbearable and very annoying. However, the enemy fired on neighboring cities and districts, and we, thank God, were not hit.
I was on the list of those who wanted to defend Kyiv, but was never sent to the capital. Thanks to the efforts of our defenders in the capital and in Kyiv region, the enemy was knocked out from there.
Now I am serving in the special assault unit, I applied here myself. For security reasons, I can't say much about my occupation. I will just say that I have an important profession acquired during my conscript service, and I work with an experienced combat team. That is why we perform important tasks for the protection of the Motherland every day. Where exactly — I also will not say, because we are always in those points where we needed most, and we move in accordance with the tasks.
My dream after the war? To become a film director finally. By education I am a specialist in multimedia: videographer, photographer, video editor, so the dream has a basis. And while I'm in the army, I took the call sign "Tarantino" for myself, to keep in mind what I dream about. I will definitely make a film about the struggle of the Ukrainian people against Russian aggression. I will show how sincere, friendly, caring Ukrainians are, I will show the whole world my point view — as a soldier — on this war. The main characters will be the military, volunteers and the territorial defense forces.
There are a lot of funny moments in my life, too — not only anger and woe. For example, every night me and the guys count the enemy UAVs in the sky. Russian drones always fly on the same trajectory, at about the same time of night. And even their number is about the same every time. So, we count them and have a good laugh sometimes.
Or recently, I've celebrated my 24th birthday sitting in a bomb shelter. My mother passed me a huge cake, so my fellows and I ate it for 3 days. And there were 20 of us! This was the third birthday that I celebrated in a military uniform: the previous two were during my conscript service. I hope God loves the trinity, and the next birthday I will meet no longer in the army!"

«23 лютого 2022 року ввечері мені зателефонували з військового комісаріату і сказали якнайшвидше прибути на місце. Отож, 24 лютого о 9 ранку я вже стояв на порозі військкомату. Мені дали одну годину на збори.
Я знав і певною мірою жив в очікуванні цієї війни – ще до дзвінка. Адже ситуація на Донбасі надто затяглася, і її потрібно було якось вирішувати. Проте я думав, що, можливо, українська сторона піде в штурм першою, щоб нарешті вибити російські війська зі сходу країни. Або що росіяни зроблять спробу захопити Луганщину і Донеччину, і ось там ми їх і присічемо. Але насправді все сталося трохи інакше…
Мене розподілили в ракетну бригаду міста Хмельницький. Там я проходив службу більше місяця. А оскільки наша частина – це стратегічно важливий об’єкт, щохвилини чекали ракетного удару. Через постійну загрозу ми з перших днів жили в підвалах, а при кожній повітряній тривозі ховалися. Так, було лячно, але хотілося, щоб на нас вже якнайшвидше «прилетіло» (усміхається) – бо жити в постійному очікуванні «прильоту» ставало нестерпно і дуже дратувало. Проте ворог обстрілював сусідні міста та райони, а нас, дякувати Богу, ракети так і не заділи.
Кілька разів записувався в списки охочих на оборону Києва, але до столиці так і не був направлений. Завдяки зусиллям бійців у столиці і в Київській області ворога звідти вибили.
Зараз я проходжу військову службу в штурмовому підрозділі спеціального призначення, попросився сюди сам. З міркувань безпеки не можу багато розповісти про рід своїх занять. Скажу лише, що в мене важливий фах, здобутий під час строкової служби в армії, і я працюю із досвідченою бойовою командою. Тому ми щодня виконуємо важливі для захисту Батьківщини завдання. Де саме – також не скажу, бо ми завжди в тих точках, де найбільше потрібні, і переміщуємося відповідно до поставлених завдань.
Після війни мрію нарешті стати режисером. За освітою я спеціаліст по мультимедіа: відеооператор, фотограф, відеомонтажер, тож мрія має підґрунтя. А поки я у війську, взяв собі позивний «Тарантіно», щоб постійно пам’ятати про задумане. Обов’язково зніму фільм про боротьбу українського народу проти російської агресії. Покажу, які українці щирі, доброзичливі, небайдужі, покажу світу свій погляд — як солдата — на цю війну. Головними героями будуть військові, волонтери та тероборонівці».
Із кумедних випадків Богдан розповідає про те, як в кожному караулі хлопці рахують ворожі БПЛА. Безпілотники завжди летять по одній і тій же траєкторії, приблизно в той самий нічний час. І навіть кількість щодня їх приблизно однакова.
Нещодавно Богдан зустрів своє 24-річчя, сидячи в бомбосховищі: «Мама передала мені величезний торт, і ми з хлопцями їли його 3 дні. А нас було 20 чоловік!»
Це вже третій день народження, який Богдан зустрів у військовій формі: попередні два були під час його строкової служби. Захисник жартує: «Сподіваюся, Бог любить трійцю, і наступний день народження я вже зустріну не в армії».
