Hi friends! Did you miss Sonia and her little sculptures? We've seen not all of them yet, and today's sculpture is located in the historic center of Kiev, on Yaroslav Val near the Radisson Blu Hotel, Kyiv City Center.
Привіт, друзі! Скучили за Сонею і її маленькими скульптурками? Ще не всі ми з нею побачили, і сьогоднішня скульптурка знаходиться в самому історичному центрі Києва, на Ярославому Валу біля готелю Radisson Blu Hotel, Kyiv City Centre.
Скульптурка присвячена гелікоптеру і його винахіднику Ігорю Сікорському.
The sculpture is dedicated to the helicopter and its inventor Igor Sikorsky.
Igor Sikorsky was born in Kyiv (Russian Empire, now Ukraine). His father was a famous professor of psychiatry. So famous and respected person that the painter artist Vasnetsov depicted him in the image of John Chrysostom when he painted the Vladimir Cathedral in Kyiv.
The father really wanted his son to become a genius. But Igor was a dreamer and wanted to go his own way. He admired the works of Jules Verne and da Vinci, and dreamed of creating an aircraft. As a child, he reworked his toys on a model designed by Leonardo da Vinci, and they seems to have even flown!
He studied at an aviator's school in France, and then returned to Kyiv and entered the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the same one that now bears his name. This institution hasn't lost its prestige since then.
Ігор Сікорський народився в Києві. Його батько був відомим професором психіатрії. Настільки відомим і поважним, що художник Васнєцов змалював з нього образ Іонана Златоуста, коли розписував Володимирський собор, що в Києві.
Батько дуже хотів, щоб його син став генієм. Але Ігор був мрійником і хотів іти власним шляхом. Він захоплювався творами Жюля Верна і да Вінчі, і мріяв створити повітряний корабель. Ще в дитинстві він переробляв свої іграшки на моделі за ескізами Леонардо да Вінчі, і вона здається навіть літали!
Він навчався у школі авіаторів у Франції, а звідти повернувся і вступив у Київський політехнічний інститут, той самий, який зараз носить його ім'я. Цей інститут не втратив свого престижу ще з тих часів.
He constructed the first model of a helicopter in the yard of the Sikorski family house. Here, it's located across the street from the mini-sculpture, in the courtyard. It is hard to believe that this is the house where the world-famous engineer was born and made his first successful projects. Few locals know what kind of house it is. It seems that the house is about to fall apart. This is a such a shame for Ukraine.
Першу модель гелікоптера він зконструював на подвір'ї будинку родини Сікорських. Ось тут, він знаходиться навпроти скульптурки, у дворику. Важко повірити, що це будинок, де народився і зробив перші свуої успішні проекти відомий у всьому світі інженер. Здається, будинок ось-ось розвалиться. Це страшенний сором для України.
Thus, the first prototype aircraft could not take off because it had insufficient engine power. And the second also failed. But dreamers never give up. But the prototype of the motorcycle - earosleigh - very successfully traveled through the Kyiv, even transported people on the frozen Dnieper from one bank to another.
Отже, перший прототип літкак не зміг злетіти, бо мав недостатню потужність двигуна. І другий теж не зміг. Але мрійники ніколи не здаються. Зате прототип мотоцикла - еаросани - дуже успішно їздив по тодішньому Києву, навіть возив людей по замерзлому Дніпру з одного берега на інший.
Then, there was the successful construction of aircrafts, setting records, career as a pilot and aircraft designer. In 1918, along with many talanted people, he emigrated to the United States. It was not easy to start from the beginning. He and like-minded people assembled the first planes in a shed on Long Island. Then he met another emigrant - composer Sergei Rachmaninoff, who gave him $ 5,000 for new engines - an incredible amount for his time. The new campaign was a success, and the first flight of the new aircraft was commissioned by the President of the United States. He carried 2 pianos for his wife)) Not surprisingly, unconditional success followed.
Sikorsky believed that the future lay in helicopters, but no one supported him. Until he received the first order from the US Air Force on the eve of the war.
Далі була успішна побудова літаків, встановлення рекордів, кар'єра пілота, конструктора. А потім сталася еміграція в США. Починати все з початку було непросто. Перші літаки він з однодумцями збирав у сарайчику на Лонг Айленді. Потім зустрів ще одного емігранта - композитора Сергія Рахманінова, який дав йому на нові двигуни 5 тис. доларів - неймовірну суму для свого часу. Нова кампанія мала успіх, і перший рейс нового літака був на замовлення презилента США. Він перевозив 2 фортепіано для його дружини )) Не дивно, що далі його чекав безумовний успіх.
Сікорський вважав, що майбутнє за гелікоптерами, але ніхто його не підтримував. Аж доки він отримав перше замовлення від американських повітряних сил напередодні війни.

Цікавий допис, цікава історія.
Не знав про будинок Сікорського. Шкода, але таких будинків вистачає в Києві. Майже щороку зносять черговий з них. Центр міста поступово чи то втрачає своє обличчя, чи то [якщо бути невиправним оптимістом] знаходить нове.
Цнй вцілів якимось чудом. Трохи підняли ьули шум навколо нього. Але далі справа не пішла поки що. Дуже шкода
Цікавий пост, але будинок Сікорського просто в жахливому стані і давно вимагає реконструкціі.
