July has been a month of heavy rains in Venezuela and more so due to the passage of Hurricane Beryl that has affected the east of the country. I am in the center of the country where the coastal mountain range begins and because we have the great Waraira Repano in front of the capital, a mountain that rises to more than 2700 meters above sea level, we are very protected against hurricanes 🌀 The secondary problem is that a tropical storm forms which triggers a series of strong storms that can flood and create terrible landslides. Fortunately, where I live, despite being in the mountains, we are quite well, but it hasn't stopped raining.
That is why this afternoon I went out to the garden to harvest and see the status of the fruits that we have been waiting for since the dry season.
Tomato 🍅 and its problems in the rainy season
The first thing I did was check the tomatoes I planted and they are already bearing fruit. The main problem is some worms that suck the sage from this bush and the same rain that generates rot. The rain hasn't caused them to wilt but the worm did cause two tomatoes to wilt so I started checking until I found the problem. I eliminated the worm that was affecting the tomato garden and the plant began to recover.
Eggplants 🍆 proof of everything
Perhaps the strongest crop we have in our terraces are Eggplants. They withstand high and low temperatures. In Venezuela and at the altitude where I am 1100 meters above sea level, the climate is between 17 degrees and 20 degrees Celsius. Quite cool for the average temperature in Venezuela. Returning to the eggplants, they are doing very well and I hope to harvest the first ones of this season within a few weeks.
Sweet chili pepper and its fruits of biblical proportions
Sweet chili is a fundamental part of gastronomy in Venezuela, it is an ingredient in the main stews of Christmas dishes and in different preparations in different parts of the country. I love it and lately I have been experimenting with this fruit in the preparation of different dishes. One of the last things I made was a sweet chili paste or sauce that I have used to season pasta and other dishes. I could say I'm close to getting a pesto of sorts with my sweet chili sauce recipe. At some point I will make a post.
Today I took advantage of harvesting some and it weighed 300 grams. Thanks to the land we made for our terraces, we managed to obtain excellent crops and the sweet pepper fruits, as can be seen in the photographs, are much larger than those commonly seen in supermarkets.
**Fruit trees waiting for their first fruits to appear **🥹
Check some lechesa trees or as they call it in other countries papaya. This fruit is really important in my diet because it has helped me a lot to overcome stomach and intestinal problems. I suffered a lot from heartburn, reflux and poor diet so when I included this fruit it helped me and practically cured me.
Finally I could see some flowers which is an indicator that it will soon start bearing fruit. So joy in my belly coming soon.
My chickens have made a mess but I still love them 🥰😍
Since 1 year ago we started raising our own chickens 🐓 to obtain eggs. In our case we are not interested in meat but rather its protein in eggs. We started with this beautiful Brahama breed rooster and 3 hens, shortly after 2 hens died and only one remained. So from then on we have gone through a learning process. Today we have more than 10 or 20 chickens and our goal is 50 in total, a quantity that we could manage and care for. They are loose at times and when they approach the terraces they take advantage and eat whatever they can. The good thing is that there is enough for us to eat and they have left it for us. But they are the ones who rule the place.
**Venezuela a blessed land **🇻🇪
Venezuela is a megadiverse country, one of the few in the world and being located in the tropics means that many species of vegetables and fruit trees produce up to 3 harvests per year naturally and if you water with enough water in the dry season you will not notice the The difference between the seasons and the jurisdictions will be equally enormous and juicy.

We have the same fruits and vegetables in Cuba, chili is also consumed a lot here.
You have a very nice and well kept garden.
Thanks for sharing it here with us in the photographers community. Nice to learn all of it. And that roaster is not looking very friendly eheheh :D
Nice post. I learned some things and was visually entertained. 👍 😀
