Suena el despertador me levanto y me pregunto: qué fecha es hoy? Para mi asombro es 25 de noviembre! Día de acción de gracias!
Aún no sabía qué iba hacer para celebrar este día. Hace unas semanas mis hijos y yo estuvimos hablando al respecto y les había prometido celebrarlo. Pensé: una nueva tradición para nuestra familia “El día de acción de gracias” por qué no?... El detalle está en que llegó el día y yo no tenía nada preparado, se nos habían pasado las semanas, los días y entre tantas cosas no había comprado lo necesario para una comida especial y algunas otras actividades. Lo pospongo? Pensé… pero decidí que no lo dejaría para después, por lo general cuando es así se olvida … así que decidí celebrarlo con lo que tuviéramos, al fin y al cabo qué necesitamos para celebrar el día de acción de gracias? Muy simple: Gratitud.
Iniciamos celebrando con un desayuno de acción de gracias! Como les comenté antes no había preparado nada para este día y eran pocas cosas las que tenía en la nevera así que tenía que inventarme algo con lo poco que tenía. Revisé la nevera y despensa, tenia huevos, harina de trigo, avena , y mortadela. Listo! Menú de hoy: panquecas de harina de trigo y avena con huevo revuelto y mortadela. Pero faltaba algo… cómo le daba el toque de acción de gracias???
We had never celebrated it before… this time we did it for our children and we loved it! The alarm goes off I get up and ask myself: what date is today? To my amazement it is November 25! Thanksgiving Day! He still didn't know what he was going to do to celebrate this day. A few weeks ago my children and I were talking about it and I had promised to celebrate it. I thought: a new tradition for our family "Thanksgiving day" why not? ... The detail is that the day came and I had nothing prepared, we had spent the weeks, days and among so many things had not bought what you need for a special meal and some other activities. Postpone it? I thought ... but I decided that I would not leave it for later, usually when it is like that it is forgotten ... so I decided to celebrate it with what we had, after all, what do we need to celebrate Thanksgiving? Very simple: gratitude. We started by celebrating with a Thanksgiving breakfast! As I mentioned before, I hadn't prepared anything for this day and there were few things I had in the fridge, so I had to come up with something with what little I had. I checked the fridge and pantry, it had eggs, wheat flour, oatmeal, and bologna. Ready! Today's menu: wheat flour and oatmeal pancakes with scrambled egg and mortadella. But something was missing ... how did I give it the touch of thanksgiving ???
Se me ocurrió cortar las panquecas con un corta galletas en forma de ave… realmente no sé si es un pájaro o un pato pero para la ocasión estaba decidido que sería un pavo. Así que me dispuse a cortar pavos de cada panqueca, con los pedazos sobrantes saqué unas figuras más pequeñitas en forma de círculos y trébol.
It occurred to me to cut the pancakes with a bird-shaped cookie cutter ... I really don't know if it's a bird or a duck but for the occasion I was decided that it would be a turkey. So I started to cut turkeys from each pancake, with the leftover pieces I took out some smaller figures in the shape of circles and clover.
Llegó el momento de servir y para mi alegría los niños quedaron muy contentos, les pareció divertido comer panquecas en formas diferentes a lo tradicional. Siempre me maravillo de la capacidad de asombro de los niños, aprecian las cosas sencillas que les hacemos con amor y un toque de magia. Nos sentamos todos juntos en la mesa y mi esposo compartió unas bonitas palabras en las que nos agradeció a cada uno por diferentes cosas que nos identificaban y nos hacían sentir muy especiales. Mis hijos siguieron la pauta y más atrás yo. Realmente agradecer es mágico, es imposible no sonreír, sentir felicidad o hasta dejar correr una lágrima. Para mi ese momento hizo que todo valiera la pena, y lo hizo muy especial aún y con la sencillez de los alimentos, se que todos nos sentíamos muy felices.
It was time to serve and to my joy the children were very happy, they found it fun to eat pancakes in different ways than the traditional one. I always marvel at children's ability to wonder, they appreciate the simple things we do to them with love and a touch of magic. We all sat together at the table and my husband shared some beautiful words in which he thanked each of us for different things that identified us and made us feel very special. My children followed the pattern and further behind me. To really thank is magical, it is impossible not to smile, feel happiness or even let a tear run. For me that moment made it all worthwhile, and it made it very special even and with the simplicity of the food, I know we all felt very happy.
Y ahora qué?? tenía que idear una actividad divertida para los niños, y como sé que les gusta colorear y las manualidades se me vino a la mente una idea súper sencilla.
Utilizamos los materiales que teníamos en casa: hojas blanca, colores, marcadores, papel crepé, cinta adhesiva y engrapadora.
And now that?? I had to come up with a fun activity for the children, and since I know they like coloring and crafts, a super simple idea came to mind. We used the materials we had at home: white sheets, colors, markers, crepe paper, masking tape and stapler.
Solo tienes que dibujar tu mano, colorear dándole forma de pavo y recortar.
You just have to draw your hand, color it into a turkey shape and cut out.
Asi fueron quedando! Qué bonitos pavos!!!

Colocar los dibujos en la pared para ellos fue muy importante, pudieron sentir lo mucho que valoramos su esfuerzo y le dio importancia a esta parte de la celebración.
Putting the drawings on the wall for them was very important, they could feel how much we value their effort and gave importance to this part of the celebration.
Ya se estaba haciendo tarde, habíamos tomado el almuerzo y queríamos hacer una actividad más para seguir compartiendo y celebrando. Qué mejor que disfrutar de una película! Desde hace rato queríamos ver una de Netflix de navidad se llama: El Chico que salvó la navidad. Es nueva!!! Se las recomiendo es una película muy bonita perfecta para ver en familia, en especial con los niños.
It was getting late, we had lunch and we wanted to do one more activity to continue sharing and celebrating. What better than to enjoy a movie! For a long time we wanted to see a Netflix Christmas called: The Boy Who Saved Christmas. It's new!!! I recommend it to you, it is a very beautiful film perfect to see with the family, especially with children.

Porsupuesto la acompañamos con cotufas, pepitos y galletas dulces…

Haber adoptado esta tradición para nuestra familia fue una maravillosa idea! Gracias a nuestros hijos por pensarlo y proponerlo!
Tal vez no suena como el Día de acción de gracias ideal, o el tradicional que la mayoría celebra, pero para nosotros fue maravilloso. No necesitamos mucho para celebrar una fecha especial o establecer bonitas tradiciones en familia, lo más importante es el significado que tiene para nosotros y el amor con el que hacemos las cosas.

Adopting this tradition for our family was a wonderful idea! Thanks to our children for thinking about it and proposing it! It may not sound like the ideal Thanksgiving Day, or the traditional one that most celebrate, but for us it was wonderful. We don't need much to celebrate a special date or establish beautiful family traditions, the most important thing is the meaning it has for us and the love with which we do things.
