Hello to all the moms of @Motherhood💕
When our treasures fall ill, for each mom it is a different situation and we deal with it the same way. Each disease is different, each child is different and depending on their age, taking medicine can be a total tragedy. In my particular case, it is very common for both of them to get sick at the same time, be it a flu, fever or any other discomfort, I experience it x 2. Thus, although I listen a lot to my pediatrician, I found different methods to make this lighter for so to speak.
When they were both younger, the truth was they did not get so sick, the most tragic thing was after the vaccines and just because of a slight discomfort so he tried to make his days as normal as possible. A baby doesn't understand anything so basically what he was doing was sitting them on my lap and using an injector to give him the correct dose by putting his head back until he could swallow. It was not such a difficult task but over time it was so tickling and "walks" were added to distract them from the bad time of taking medicine.
And as they are more and more aware of what it is to take medicine, I have been able to start using other methods, for example, before I mainly used the injector and now I can use the measuring spoons that are his favorites are back, and the lids of some drugs that work as a cup. To get to this point I have had to talk and repeat over and over again why the medicines should be taken so the truth is not such a difficult task using these practical spoons.
But there are cases of cases and I have had to beg and plead with you to open your mouth. So the prizes with some sweets or trinkets have been a great help, basically it is about negotiating, they take the medicine and I will give them something that they want and we all win. This does not apply to those doses at night so I only apply this during the day. For the night we agree on other things like a game, wear the pajamas they want, or have breakfast the next day whatever they want.
So I think brute force is not ideal, there are children who are really so sick that by telling them they will feel better with the medicine, they agree to take it. There are others who do not accept prizes or any type of distraction, the age and stage in which you are will also be a determining point. You have to try thousands of options, each time it will be different, you must be patient and remember that you are the person who knows your child the most. Educate from a young age, teach with patience, create routines or negotiation points and of course understand your treasure because some medicines DO KNOW HORRIBLE.
