A Scorching Aussie Summer's Day Out!

Today was one of those classic Aussie summer days where the heat soared to a blistering 41 degrees Celsius. So we packed up the kids and headed to Point Addis Beach on the surf coast rather than the bay.

It's a hidden gem along the Great Ocean Road. Known for its rugged cliffs and sweeping views of the coastline but has seen an increase in use over the years, traditionally a nude beach but now it is more in use by many due to how amazing it is. The beach was already packed when we arrived, with surfers carving up the waves and families seeking shade under beach umbrellas.

The heat was relentless but the clear blue water was well, as all southern beaches here in Australia. Cool and refreshing!. The kids wasted no time splashing in the rock pools and chasing little crabs along the shore. The golden sand stretching endlessly by the cliffs give the beach its unique charm. The wind carried the faint scent of salt and eucalyptus which is a signature of coastal Victoria.

the sky began to change by the afternoon and out of nowhere a crack of thunder announced a storm. It caught everyone off guard. One minute, it was sunny and sweltering and the next, rain was pelting down. everyone scrambled to pack up their stuff and we joined the exodus up the steep wooden stairs leading back to the car park. Despite the rain, the heat lingered and the drops felt more like warm sprinkles than a cooling relief.

Dinner on the Coast

Back in the car we decided to make a detour to Torquay for dinner. After a day of sun, sand and stormy surprises we were after some comfort food. We ended up at IL Motto a cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of Torquay. The place was buzzing as the rain only increased the humidity as it didn't last long.

We started with a kids Hawaiian, A Traditional margherita and Gnocchi. The pizza was crisp on the edges and soft in the middle oozing with cheezy goodness. The margherita pizza was a perfect balance of tangy tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella and a fragrant sprinkle of basil.

We ate outside as the evening was too beautiful to miss a great meal in the outdoors while calming Italian music played and a lot of lovers, young and old dined on their favourite Italian dishes and glasses of wine.

The storm might have disrupted our beach plans, but it couldn’t dampen the day’s adventures. Watching the kids laugh over bowls of gelato for dessert it reminds me how days like these being unpredictable and a little chaotic (as life is with kids) are the ones that become cherished memories.

Not to mention the storm clouds gave way to a soft, golden light. Driving home, the air was still thick and warm but the dramatic sky made for a breathtaking backdrop and a perfect mix of nature’s power, family fun and delicious food.

A great way to spend Australia Day in the Land Down Under!

wow 41 degrees in summer is crazy, sometimes I forget that the southern hemisphere is in summer, the truth is it seems like a good plan to go to the beach in that heat and take advantage of it to eat out and have a good time

yup and the difference here is that the water comes up from Antarctica where I am so it is often refreshing. When you go to Queensland, the water is warmer and often matches the outside temp.

An afternoon storm on a hot summer public holiday at the beach, is hard to beat!

Sea plus pizza is really good😍
Looks the kids enjoyed so much☺️

💯 is, no greater
