Good day Motherhood I hope you're having a wonderful time. This week has been all about the wonderful Matriarch of our household my beautiful wife. I read one of her posts recently and it really touched on my heart strings, not only did I see it resonate with so many women in our community but also the hard work she puts into her elected position.
It also reminded me why I love her so much and the important role model she is to our children.
When she first put her hand up for public office it was what I would interpret a clash between generations in some part. Many older generational women attacked her for seeking leadership roles within the community. Stating that she should be at home raising children or supporting me in my tilt at leadership.
It's an interesting mindset of the era gone by, that a women's position in life is to support her husband. No doubt an out dated view of the world but there are still alot of people who have this view. It was a number one attack she received from other women.
I think it has also given her a bit of a fire in her belly to focus on the community, if you read my Leo finance post this morning there was a small snapshot on what she has achieved in only 6 months.
I'll let her words do the talking for the next part, her post read below.
*We've just past 6 months of my first full year on council.
When I ran for council a lot of people asked how I would do it as I'd just given birth not long before the election and held a job as a nurse.
I'm not going to lie, it isn't always easy and the amount of times I've had to pull over to settle the kids, feed them or change a nappy right before an event adds to the challenges.
But challenges aren't barriers however, like barriers they can be overcome. For instance I've come to learn that male rest rooms have a lack of baby change facilities, that there aren't enough accessible public toilets and meetings and community consultations don't take into consideration needs of families just to name a few. I will be actively working to make the changes we need.
The challenges exist because previous models of leadership involved women at home with the kids while men met. As more women put their hands up to lead more and more of these challenges will be removed. Not only will this enable more women to succeed in leadership positions but they will fit a more vibrant and inclusive world. One that enables equal participation of everyone. After all, communities only function when we can all come together.
People should be empowered and enabled to achieve greatness, not confined to a position because the world around them doesn't enable them too.
What are your thoughts, what are some of the things you'd like to see changed to enable not just women, but more people seek out leadership roles*
I can not be more prouder of her, it is extremely hard as a mum and in office. That doesn't take away that I do quite alot with the kids and household chores, but there is something about being a mother that can not be replaced by a dad no matter how much I am there and how much I do. Kids always want their mothers more, a big part of that would be due to mothers carry the children and my wife breastfed so she had alot of connection with them.
Even lil miss 4 loves her mum more than dad, I know this because she tells me every day 🤣
But it's great seeing more women lead, it means we can start to see things change. We talk about women in leadership but we lack the supports and change to enable women to succeed.
Her words reached over 10,000 women and had just as much engagement.
Being a mum is a full time job even when you're not there, let's build a better world for our mothers. The world needs it.
Thank you, I really learn from your post, in life husband and wife needs to support themselves.
And the leadership role is not met for man alone.
An organizational without women that means is not well organized because there is no how, they will need woman advise and support.
Yay! 🤗
