Trick Or Treat As Australia Embraces Halloween!
Halloween may not be an Australian tradition by origin but it’s becoming a popular celebration across the country. As each year more Australian neighbourhoods get into the spooky spirit, with more houses decorated and a rise in kids eagerly donning costumes for trick or treating.
The holiday’s newness in Australia makes it an exciting experience for kids, like mine who look forward to it each year. However, it’s also a time when some community members raise concerns especially about etiquette and respect for those who choose not to participate.
Trick Or Treating in Australia has really taken off over the past few years. Previously, Halloween was more of a niche event with only a few houses scattered here and there decorating for the night. But this year, we noticed a lot more houses decorated with pumpkins, cobwebs and other spooky props.
The sight of these decorations really built up the excitement for the kids, who couldn’t wait to start their evening adventure. The enthusiasm of homeowners was infectious you could tell that they enjoyed setting up creative displays to welcome trick or treaters.
Expansion of decorations and participation!
our neighbourhood was buzzing with families moving from house to house, and for the kids it felt like a grand treasure hunt collecting treats and marvelling at the decorated homes.
Halloween here may still have a way to go before it reaches the same level of celebration as it does in America but the steady growth is clear and the community spirit is welcoming.
My kids were all dressed up in their Halloween costumes and couldn’t contain their excitement as we set out. For them, Halloween is a magical night when they get to be characters from their favourite shows and books, meet up with friends and enjoy going from house to house with their pumpkin containers to hunt for lollies and chocolates.
Their faces lit up with each treat they collected, and they loved the thrill of guessing whether the next house would have something spooky or maybe even a little creepy waiting for them.
Is Marvel a good choice?
My youngest went as Iron man and my oldest I have no idea who she is but I think she was dressed up as Wednesday. Overall the experience was wholesome fun with my kids getting to spend time outside and away from screens while meeting neighbours and being part of a unique tradition.
Many people handing out treats genuinely seemed to enjoy seeing the creativity and excitement in the kids’ costumes creating a friendly and festive atmosphere.
Not everyone's cup of tea
not everyone in the community had a seamless experience. We heard from a few residents who were frustrated because some kids were taking too many lollies or chocolates without paying attention to signs that indicated a limit on treats per person.
Some families also didn't notice that not all houses were participating leading to interruptions for those who preferred not to participate. For a country still adapting to Halloween’s etiquette, it’s understandable that these sorts of issues come up.
Overall the kids had a wonderful time and we really enjoyed getting out and about in the community and just having fun!
How did you go this Halloween? Do you participate in the event let us know in the comment section below.
I love Halloween, and it is such a shame it is not celebrated here. I'm glad that some countries where Halloween isn't part as their culture are adopting this celebration. I hope someday we can do that here too.
It looks like you enjoyed your Halloween night.
We had a wonderful time, it's something that has picked up over the years which is great.
Here some businesses decorate for Halloween and some bars and clubs plans themed parties too. But you don't usually see decorated houses or kids trick or treating. It would be nice if someday it becomes a tradition here too.
That would be awesome!
