Marvelous garden mushrooms

in Fungi Lovers3 years ago

Hi Community!

I guess that it happens to all of you: after shooting some pictures, you wonder about posting them and share some nice experiences with this nice community; then, suddenly, you simply forget by being captured in some other things.

Well, it happened basically all summer long. Now, fall came and sitting here in a cloudy day I was remembering the wonder of those mushrooms growing in my garden.

Especially the one in the next two pictures amazed me: it was a 30cm tall mushroom that started closed (first picture) and opened several days later (second picture).
Not so much surprisingly, it growth in one night (or at least I didn't see it coming) and it lasted in total for kind of two weeks before drying out and eventually die.

A neighbour told me that actually those mushrooms are edible and quite tasty if grilled...I did not try just for the sake of its beauty, it would have been a pity.

Here we see a nice patch of edible mushrooms: they are squishy and translucent little fungi with a spongy inside, but if left unpicked, they grow quite a lot.
No matter that they are not my best mushrooms to eat, we pickled them.

A close-up of those mushrooms: pretty!

And those are soooooo funny! They really look like marshmallows!

Until next time!

With the macrolepiota procera you can also test if it's ring is movable to be sure. It is pretty distinct. Had a lot of people ask me who were uncertain about it's edibility. I agree that it really looks marvellous and intimidating.

it lasted in total for kind of two weeks before drying out and eventually die.

so you let him die?!?!?!!!!

;=)

ok I confirm: this is Macrolepiota procera, very tasty (some call it delicious) edible mushroom. much better then Champignons! its taste resembles meat....

Exactly what neighbour said: "Grill it, that mushroom tastes like meat!" 😂

no lol! as he said the truth. if he had fried and treated you, you would have eaten, praised the meat and did not even know that you were eating mushrooms, not meat. fact! my friend says that these mushrooms can be cooked in such a way that they can resemble three different types of meat!

No way! Three different types? If you know, may I ask how?

i dont remember it very clearly, smth like chicken / turkey / rabbit. smth like that, but thats not totally 100% sure. the main idea is... the meat is delicious and you cant imagine it a mushroom meat until you are being told about that!
PS - why you requesting details about this from me, lol - ask your neightbour? ;)))))

I'll make some experiments, if there will be some more next year. My neighbour only said to grill it on the fire 😅

Hopefully lots more Macrolepiotas will grow there next year and you will have a full meal to harvest next year.

Yeah, that was the idea 😁
I also tried to "plant" some boletus and chanterelles by sporification (is it a thing?). We'll see.

Yeah the boletus and chanterelles seem to only like specific trees to grow under and very particular soil settings. The best way to do sporification is when you go mushroom hunting put them in a mesh bag and carry them in the open air so the spores are spread around as you walk around looking for more mushrooms. This is the standard practice around here especially when hunting morels.

Oh morels...still never saw one of them! I hope I will find some next season. It is late spring, isn't it?

Yeah morel season around here starts on the first day of spring after a rain and its at least 60 F degrees out.

Yay! 🤗
