Tasty edible toadstool appearing in early summer - Blushing amanita

in Fungi Lovers2 years ago

If you do not know about mushrooms, do not pick this species. Although it is edible, it is very easy to confuse it with a similar species, i.e. Blushing amanita (Amanita rubescens) or, worse, with the spotted Panther cap or False blusher (Amanita pantherina).

The cap of this mushroom is usually gray or grey-olive in color. Reaches 15-18 cm in diameter when mature. The young mushroom has a semicircular shape, with age it becomes spread, umbrella-shaped.

The surface of the cap is covered with white dots, patches that may fall off during rain. The surface is smooth, dry. The edges of the cap are often cracked. The gills are white, dense.

The leg can reach a height of about 15 cm. It's full inside. At the very bottom there is a distinct tuber.

There is a clear white ring on the leg. Often it is already a hanging remnant, but you can see striation on it.

The mushroom is edible, and its white, sometimes greyish, thick flesh has a delicate mushroom smell and a mild taste, also slightly mushroomy.

The fungus can be found very often in coniferous forests, less often in deciduous ones. It appears in early summer and grows until late autumn. It usually grows singly or in small groups.
