Ten niesamowity gatunek śluzowców w odróżnieniu od grzybów, potrafi się przemieszczać. Oczywiście proces jest bardzo powolny i niezauważalny gołym okiem przez człowieka. Dzieje się tak za sprawą światła, które wyczuwają i wędrują w jego kierunku. Ten proces nazywa się fototaksja.
But it is not only the light that makes the Wolf's milk move around the tree. It also reacts to chemical stimuli and travels towards food. This process is called chemaxis. Slime molds also react to temperature and change position as well.
Ale nie tylko światło sprawia, że Rulik nadrzewny porusza się po drzewie. Reaguje on bowiem również na bodźce chemiczne i wędruje w kierunku pożywienia. Ten proces nazywa się chemiotaksja. Śluzowce reagują również na temperaturę i również zmieniają położenie.
The Wolf's milk can most often be found on dead organic matter, i.e. decaying branches, wood. But it's not their meal, it's their habitat. They feed on bacteria, protozoa or fungal sporangia.
Rulika nadrzewnego najczęściej można spotkać na martwej materii organicznej, czyli butwiejące gałęzie, drewno. Ale to nie jest ich posiłek tylko siedlisko. Odżywiają się bowiem, bakteriami, pierwotniakami, czy zarodniami grzybów.
The Wolf's milk does not reach large sizes. It grows up to 5 mm in diameter. It has an oval or spherical shape and its color changes depending on its age. Young fruiting bodies are salmon and slightly pink in color, the more mature ones even turn red, purple, and the old species turn brown.
Rulik nadrzewny nie osiąga dużych rozmiarów. Dorasta maksymalne do 5 mm średnicy. Ma owalny lub kulisty kształt i w zależności od wieku jego kolor się zmienia. Młode owocniki mają kolor łososiowy i lekko różowy, dojrzalsze przybierają nawet kolor czerwony, purpurowy, a stare gatunki brązowieją.
On the surface of this slime mold you can clearly see delicate protrusions. They can be found in forests of all types, throughout the growing season. It is an inedible creature.
Na powierzchni tego śluzowca wyraźnie widać delikatne wypustki. Można je spotkać w lasach wszystkich typów, cały sezon wegetacyjny. Jest stworzeniem niejadalnym.
