The mushrooms that I will post tonight are Jelly Ear Mushrooms 7 The outer surface of the fruit body of jelly ear mushrooms is covered with purple brownish brown and fine gray velvet. The inner surface is smooth. If you are not bothered by the strange appearance and dirty color of jelly year mushrooms, they are actually edible when cooked and are very popular in some eastern countries. I've tried it, and the texture is nice enough but I can't detect the taste at all. The individual lobes of Auricularia auricula-judae grow between 3 and 10 centimeters.
It can grow on the branches of dead alder trees and sometimes as a weak parasite in living alder stems. It is rare, but the fungus is not found on other broad-leaved species, including Sycamore, Beech, and Ash. The fungus also grows on eucalyptus trees and fallen branches in Australia.

This mushroom is also sometimes used in cooking, where it gives an attractive texture but nothing special in terms of taste. The young fresh fruiting body (above) is generally considered the best. A similar and closely related species is an edible mushroom that is very popular in the Far East and especially in China where it is also used in medicine. I could not detect any real taste in these mushrooms, but the texture of the mushroom mixture was quite pleasant.
