New Mugs: Is There a Limit to Mushroom Themed Gifts?

in Fungi Lovers17 days ago

Mum has about ten elephants at her place. There's a big brass Ganesha and a stone water feature Ganesh too, and various other elephants she's been gifted over the years.

'I made the mistake of saying I liked elephant' she said daily. 'Please don't buy me elephants.

I made the same error saying I liked hares to my sister in law and mother in law. Hares would feature on everything - greeting cards, fridge magnets, calenders. I was totally hared out.

Now it seems everyone has switched to mushrooms. I got a little mushroom foraging book I didn't need and a calendar I won't use. I'm really not a fan of this kind of gifting, though there's a sweet thought behind it. It's how you end up with a lot of tat you don't need.

I'd rather no gifts at all, to be honest.

But my son got me these enamel mushroom mugs which I adore. They are perfect for travelling as they are unbreakable, and they are also huge - great for cold drinks. I don't like drinking coffee out of enamel mugs but wine or bubbly water, yes! He also got me some homemade peach and habanero chilli sauce. Boy knows me too well.

The upshot is yes, you can have too many mushroom themed gifts, like you can end up with too many elephants or hares.

But sometimes, people just nail it, don't you think?

With Love,

Aw, here I was, hoping to exploit your fascination with 'shrooms to sell you some jewelry made from glass fungi beads.

You have my attention

I remember one time, I cooked a mushroom (found them atbthe backyard) and served it to the family. We got sick. My bad, I picked inedible mushrooms. Since then, I only buy either fresh oyster mushrooms or canned mushrooms. Got to be more careful !BBH

Oh no you have to be SO careful!!!! I only pick and eat the ones I'm super certain about.

MUG!!?? I want that mug🤣 other than books, one thing that I am so tempted to collect is mugs. That one looks so cute and I want one too

Hahahhaha well mugs and books are marriages made in heaven!

They are awesome 🤩
Yep, perfect 😁

I adore them!!!

I see why 🥰

I find myself a lot in what you say and it made me smile. A good gift comes from the heart, reflects your values and is useful almost every day; here, the mug is ideal!

💓💓💓

Honestly, their coloring in the photo is interesting. Takes you to the past!

I guess it's a kinda vintage vibe, right?

The photos and the shape of the mug took me to the past. Of course, this was my feeling. It will definitely be different for everyone. I like the colors. They are beautiful but I wish they weren't fine lines. I think this style is much prettier without the background! Of course, this is my opinion.🤔

They suit you! Perfect for the trips.

They chose good huh? I love them. And the painted enamel doesn't scorch you unlike some enamel cups...

OMG that is a crazy mug!!! lol

i like those type mugs for the garden as i invariably drop them somewhere or forget about them for a week and they are easier to deal with than the breakable type. And i don't like the plastic ones. I got the kids awesome unicorn ones for christmas camping.

happy new year

BLINGIT

Love the mugs!! haha but the sentiment of this post made me giggle. When I was in my early twenties I went on a girl's weekend away with friends from work. We stayed in a little cottage on the coast and visited some cute roadside market stores and souvenir shops on our daily travels. I walked into one and saw an adorable porcelain butter dish in the shape of a cow and had to get it. Oops! For the next few years I was gifted milk bottles, magnets, notebooks, and jugs... amongst other things... all cow themed!!! My mom had the same problem with owls and elephants lolol ... I feel your pain!

Limits? no limits, since shroom-growing kits may be considered as consumables... but if we talk specifically about mugs, I prefer them separately from mushrooms :) just today I was in the central bookstore of the city, and enjoyed the sight of beautiful and varied coffee mugs... and tea mugs too.

Oh I love them, they are so cool and practical, I love a big cup.
I hear you though about over gifting, and the whole ornament thing. I probably have too many books for some, so I am guilty of it, but everything else, if it doesn't have a real purpose, I don't want it. xxxx

Yes me too. But I have used these all the time! And they bring me joy. Yesterday a smoothie and peanut butter crackers in company of my mug was divine.
