This is amber jelly roll aka exidia recisa. It is edible but has no taste to it so I like to collect it, wash it, then soak it in spices. You can also dry it for use later then rehydrate it in water. With spices it works really well in miso soup similar to wood ear. Here are some fresher looking specimens. Just look for it right after a rain on tiny broken branches in the forest.

I've eaten it many times, its listed as inedible because it is bland and has no real nutritional value. But from a culinary perspective it absorbs spices in a soup really well. I soak it in lime and chili powder then add it to soup.

Maybe someday I'll try to cook this mushroom, although I'm very careful about adding new mushrooms to the menu).
