Around seven days ago I started a mushroom kit, and about 5 days ago I started seeing signs of change in the organism living in a block of grain. First I saw some change on the top where I scratched the surface, changing color. And when I checked it on my thermal camera the block of mycelium was giving off heat. But recently in the last few days it has really started to expand, outside of the block.
I had to move it into a room with some better lighting, as it was the morning when I took these pictures. Upon moving it I smelled this mushroom for the first time. It has a slightly fishy smell, and with their shapes forming I can see how it got its name. Hah its okay, from how they say it tastes I don't mind that. Well we shall see, I do not think I have ever ate any, so I may be giving a lot of it away of its not my thing.

Taking a look from the bottom up we can see how much it has expanded outside of its plastic wrapper. The bag it lives in keeps it protected from other molds and fungi, and also helps keep the moisture in.
I think I can see the gills forming on them, interesting how it changed colors to a more cream pink now.
This kit has worked out well, for both spawn making and as a fun kit. Having my camera around and using its macro lenses on this has been fun too. My new camera is producing some great pictures, looking forward to doing more video with it as well.
Wondering when they will start to make co2. I put the block in a closed box for around thirty minutes with my sensor. But unfortunately it did not detect any elevation yet.
I will keep checking every week to see when it starts producing more co2.
One side of the mushroom cluster looks different than the other. Not sure what that is about.
Hah we can still see some of those grains on the mushroom surface.. maybe I should go clean those off. They are left overs from the grain spawn its growing in. Just some debris when I scratched them in the beginning to start the process.
Pretty cool so far, but I think its going to keep growing and get even more impressive before its done.
For now I will give it water twice a day, around a dozen sprits from the mister bottle. And will do another update post when I see some more progress or when it produces co2.
From what I have read I need to wait a few weeks for this to fully grow, but 1 week in its already growing soo much!

Looking good they might need a bit more humidity and air/indirect sunlight for a bigger cap bloom. Pink oysters are great since you can just soak the block in water overnight then seal the opening with tape. Then after a few days you can cut a new hole in the bag to start pinning again. Also be sure to harvest them before they start smelling like ammonia.
Thanks for the tips, okay I will give them some more water. Yeah I was reading you can get more than one flush out of them.. pretty cool.
They are indeed smelling but not like ammonia.. Just a general fishy smell.
Damn! Its so pretty!!! :D
Also, it grows really really fast, I am surprised!
Hehe yeah it is, and I know pretty amazing at the speed its growing.
Its so amazing!

I really want space so I can grow my own food!
Not really any space in an apartment in the city :c

I was really amazed by its structure and flawless beauty. I found the scenes really mesmerizing and attractive. Of course, I myself like to eat mushrooms.
yeah it does look quite interesting... nice I like to eat them too.
You should definitely do a Timelapse of how it’s growing!
Ah good idea.. Need to find my actions cams for that.
Friend @solominer , your discoveries are very important, every time you do it, especially for food, I wish we all had such an important opportunity to discover the necessary foods for life, which are scarce for economic reasons. Success in your publication from Venezuela, wishing you Merry Christmas and always thanking you for your visits to my publications. Greetings.
Thank you, it sure is nice to grow your own food when its hard to find it elsewhere.
That's how it is dear @solominer especially, when we are in moments where inflation is hitting each nation hard, agriculture is one of the most important events for feeding the people. successes
