Fun Guy looking for Fungi

Spotted this beauty, close to the river, here in rural Portugal.

Just before I made this discovery - easily the prettiest mushroom found on today's walk - I had been otterly surprised by an utter ( pun intended ).

I only managed to get its funny face on camera, but that brief ( 4 second ) video, will have to wait for another post.

This one is supposed to be about mushrooms.

I am curious if anyone can determine this species. I am still a(n almost) complete noob when it comes to these organisms, but I like to think that my intuition is pretty strong and it told me that this one is poisonous. In fact, I felt I shouldn't even touch this slimy creature, so I decided to just let it be, so it could continue to brighten up the forest, with its pretty color.

@yangyanje do you by any chance recognize this red beauty?

@trucklife-family & @riverflows - I am seriously curious about that mushroom cultivating course that you are/ have been following online. As you live on differnt continents, I guess it's not location dependent and would work for me too, right? Would love to know more, as I'm seriously considering to start growing mushrooms for consumption myself and I would love to know more about these fascinating critters asap, preferably without having to do random searches ;<)

Here's some more 'shroom pictures.

The mushroom on this one is more than a little overexposed but I like the close up enough to share it.

This threesome looked pretty cute.

It's kind of like mom and dad are protecting their little one, don't you think? :<)

And this one looks to be playing hide and seek or maybe it's just shy...

If anyone can determine any of these mushrooms from my pictures, I would love to know more. Even it's just a guess. I am really looking forward to deepdiving in mushrooms, mushroom foraging and - especially - cultivating these incredible organisms, in the not too distant future but, for now, I am merely observing and enjoying them from a distance.

Although, to be totally honest, I twice ate a Parasol Mushroom ( Macrolepiota Procera ), that I had foraged myself, here in Portugal. The first time, a year or three ago, I found it in the forest ( and fried it, after having it checked by three wise, old women, in my town. The grannies said it was edible and luckily they weren't witches ( Halloween joke ).

The second time, I found the same mushroom in my garden ( about a year ago ). This time I didn't have the three witches to consult, as I changed house, so I did some research with a mushroom book from my neighbor and the Internet. I determined it as the Parasol Mushroom and ate some of it, still made sure to fry it well and not eat too much at once. I like my life too much ;<)

Is it a coincidence that I found one Parasal Mushroom in my garden, just now, after my walk? In all honesty, I stopped believing in coincidence or luck.

It seems to grow around the same spot where I discovered some of them ( including the one I ate ), last year. And, this is one thing I learned about mushrooms so far, they they return to the same places. So, once you know about a certain spot with edible mushrooms, they will likely return to that place, over and over again.

I am gonna end this here, for today. I am getting hungry and it's actually dinner time. I am looking forward to posting, reading and learning more about mushrooms and am looking forward to your comments.

Have a great day!

Hi @vincentnijman i thought it was a Hygrocybe coccinea/ scarlet waxcao, but honestly im not sure. I’d need more pictures, perspectives and details about its size. Then one should not identify mushrooms from pictures. At least most of them. Some need microscopic analysis and other can be defined macroscopically also from pictures, although that would be a risky assumption rather than a definite response to your question. Remember my friend. One can eat all mushrooms, but a few only once.

I get that. I appreciate your guess anyway and, once again, I didn't forage any, today.

Wise words, haha!
I guess that means: 'once' in a lifetime ;<)

Cheers buddy!
