Handling time.

in Self Improvement3 years ago

Time is the most important resource you have, you always spend it and you can never earn it back. Time is not money. Time.is.life!

Since it's impossible to earn it, you'll have to learn how to spend it. Better yet, how to invest it.

But how do you know where to invest your time since you can never know what results in a specific action is going to generate.

Investing money feels like an exact science because they're quantifiable, but investing your time feels like a more abstract, inexact science because you never know what you'll get.

So then with all of that, how do you better learn to invest your time?

Although asking yourself questions like "What matters to me?" and "what do I want out of life?" It will help you to have a better understanding of what you want, it would not really tell you how to get it.

And then the question becomes, if you know what you want out of life(hopefully you do), how do you identify projects and specific actions that will get you what you want?

For example, you might think to yourself "I want a successful career".
Yeah, and?

There is literally a near-infinite number of options that would seem to satisfy that question, but how do you know which one is going to be "the right one"?

You might say "I want to be happy".
Yeah, and? You have an infinity of options to pursue happiness. How will you decide what's the best way?

Knowing what you want declares your desire, it does not formulate a solution.

One of the highest forms of human intelligence, and the skill that will help you to identify the actions that will get you what you want, is the ability to predict the future as accurately as possible and repeatable enough so it will not be pure luck.

So in this context, investing your time wisely means getting good at predicting the future.

So how do you do that?

To get good at predicting the future, you have to be able to get enough valuable, relevant information, to be able to observe and understand what you are observing, to spot trends and patterns, and to see how they might play out in the future. But maybe the best way to predict the future, as Elon Musk said, is to build it yourself.

And so the best way to invest your time is to create and build something of value.

And in case you ask yourself, ok but what should I build? What should I create?

The answer to that is pretty simple.
Build what you are trying to predict, create around your curiosity and discover the answer yourself.
