Beauty awakens the soul

The world is full of beauty for a soul who chooses to see it. It's all around us and within us, we just have to notice it. We need to pause long enough to see more clearly, more deeply, and with our heart and soul, as much as with our eyes because it is our heart and soul where beauty touches us most tenderly. Life is full of beauty and potential if we wish it to be, and the only fight should be the fight for our dreams.

The picture is me and I recall this day like it was only yesterday; it was simple and filled with beauty. Nothing momentous occurred, no grand events, but the beauty I found in it has endured to this day and thoughts of it allow that beauty to blossom over again.

I'd woken, shared breakfast with my man, a simple pastry and coffee at the café across the street from our rented apartment, and set out walking through the centre of Florence. We didn't have a destination and time had no meaning, only the beauty of the moments we shared had any meaning or relevance, and those moments we created.

We found ourselves at the Piazza dei Pitti and, after some time spent talking to some street artists, moved off towards the Giardino di Boboli behind the Pitti Palace. The gardens are extensive and, as my man and I both love natural places, we found peace there. We wandered, laid in the grass together allowing the sun to warm us, trailed our fingers in the fountains and ponds and saw beauty in everything we looked at, felt beauty in the moments and created beauty with our closeness.

Beauty is something special when one has the ability to find it everywhere, externally and within oneself. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say, and for me it was a defining moment to understand that I am the beholder. I think, once a person does so, they have a superpower, the ability to find beauty in places those without the power cannot.

Because Dante Alighieri was born in Florence I'd like to share a few words he wrote to finish my post. I think they are quite relevant and certainly are words I believe in. I believe we all have the ability to find beauty and through doing so, the process and achieving it, I believe we become better at being ourselves, and when that happens...so does magic.

There really is beauty in everything about us, isn't there? Even the most mundane. I agree with you that a person needs to be able to want it, and it'll be there.
