It is very interesting what you say about memories. Well, according to what I have read it is like that. I understand that every time we remember something we are modifying it a little in our mind, we are re-creating it. In a way we all walk around with false memories.
Our thoughts are so important and yet many do not even take the time to think about what they think, they take their thoughts as true, they assume it that way and that's it. They don't realize that they are just that ... thoughts and a thought can be changed. What about those people who fight and die defending an idea? it must be shocking to them to realize that we cannot see the world as it is, we see it as we believe it is.
Sorry about your dog, anyone could say that it is the law of life and that we are all going to die, and "blablabla" but I know that it is still sad to say good bye to a friend.
This year my little dog died, and I think it knew it for sure. It knew that he would no longer be with us. But hey, who could know the truth? That’s another belief, and maybe my dog didn't have a clue of what was going to happen.
It makes "seeing it with your own eyes" quite redundant over time - as even the perspective experienced is going to change in the mind.
I see thoughts and feelings like clouds that come and go - sometimes there is a storm, sometimes it is sunny, sometimes one realizes that they are a changing condition of the mind that shapes us and changes us, yet strangely, we are always us.
I think the dogs know it also - death seems to be something we can sense perhaps. I don't know if all creatures are sentient enough to acknowledge it, but cats tend to run away when they feel it is their time and I assume dogs know it also.
