To improve my fitness, I had previously set a goal to clock an average of 8,000 steps on a daily basis for 2023. To put the numbers in perspective, my average step count for 2022 was about 4,656 steps.
It has now been eight months into the year and I thought I would share my progress and reflect on my journey thus far.
The Numbers
August was a great month as I was on vacation for some parts of the month, and managed to travel Thailand and Japan for weeks of sightseeing. Inevitably, I was clocking the steps ferociously (and unknowingly) and I managed to end the month with a whooping 9,596 steps daily. That's about 50% higher than usual. As for the overall average, it increased from 6,666 to 7,040 steps currently. That said, it is still way short of the 8,000 steps target, but we are getting closer!

Appreciate The Little Things In Life
I would share bits about my life along this journey of Walking To A Better 2023, and this month is no different.
I actually wanted to write about my trips but I think the sights and experiences probably deserve separate entries on their own. Am still currently sorting out the travel photos and catching on my Hive reading and posting at the moment. While travelling, I had some reflections and I just feel that we (or at least myself) ought to appreciate the little things in life, a little more.
Simple things like I am healthy and alive to be able to go on vacation and enjoy these different sights, try out different cuisines, and build up memorable life experiences
Simple things like I have a stable job which grants me annual vacation leave that I can utilise to take some time off work (still get paid at the same time!) - and I do know some friends do not have such flexibility so it's something that I shouldn't take for granted
Simple things like I have a nice team of colleagues who cover my urgent work pieces without bothering me so that I can enjoy my break uninterrupted - and I do know some friends who have to take calls or reply work emails even when they are on vacation
Simple things like I have the financial means and savings to travel, especially when flights and hotel accommodations are not cheap these days - and I do know some friends who are trying to make ends meet and have to watch their expenses carefully with the inflation affecting everyone's living expenses.
So for that, I am very grateful and thankful, especially when I had a tough first half this year. :)
Summing Up
So August was an awesome month and let's see how September would turn out. Am slightly optimistic about September's step count because it will still be boosted a little by travelling - but it still depends on my activity for the rest of the month, especially when I will be back to my desk bound job. Well, I am still not sure whether I can hit my 8,000 steps target but I will just keep doing my best and enjoy the process! Like what some say, it's not always the outcome but the journey that counts! :)

That is a well planned out, well thought and perfectly recorded goal, many people could learn from this.
You are currently a little short on where you want to be right now but I have zero doubt you will do what is necessary in this last part of the year to make it happen. You and I both know that some people would have 'doctored' the numbers to make it appear that they were perfectly on track... What's the bloody point, they are only lying to one person, really. That is toxic to them.
Moving towards any goal, anything worth achieving is that is a perfectly imperfect journey, especially when us humans are involved.
I love this! I cannot wait to see where you finish up and what you choose for 2024, I hope you choose something new and keep up the steps, imagine that layering?
