Hello Hive community, taking advantage of the writing mood left by the last post in which I gave my opinion on the black phone, I decided not to let the mood pass and talk about another movie I saw recently and almost let pass under the table, Lightyear, which gave a lot to talk about since it was released and has many things that can be highlighted. Personally, almost everything that comes from Disney and Pixar is a guarantee that at the very least, the movie is going to make me have a good time. I think I can count on the fingers of one hand (and I would have fingers to spare) the times Disney and pixar delivered a movie that made me say "this is really bad" and on these rare occasions, I think it was just me because the movie usually ends up being a success at the box office and with the general public.
Lightyear was no exception. When I finally got to see the movie, it was already several days after its release, which means that I already knew that the movie had been a failure both at the box office and by the critic, so I was already a little bit predisposed, which I think helped me personally that the movie exceeded my expectations.
LO BUENO: como dije al comienzo la película sigue la fórmula del éxito Disney. Una historia fácil de digerir para los niños y entretenida para los padres. Con personajes bien desarrollados y con humor bastante simple pero que termina funcionando.
Como película aislada la disfruté mucho, la odisea de Buzz al tratar de encontrar una forma de regresar a su gente a casa, el sentirse culpable por el hecho de quedar atrapados en el planeta hostil y que cada intento le haga perder años de vida y la oportunidad de vivirla junto a su amiga Alisha Hawthorne.
Si bien la película es simple de entender como dije antes, también aborda temas un poco más profundos como la soledad y la necesidad de cargar con todo solos. Son cosas que cuando vemos la película siendo niños podemos pasar por alto, pero que seguramente algunos adultos si notamos y nos sentimos identificados.
La película toma inspiración de otras películas de ciencia ficción, como pueden ser Alíen, Star Wars o back to the future. Inclusive, recuerdo que reí al verla al darme cuenta que la película puede ser fácilmente Interestellar para niños😂.
The good: As I said at the beginning, the film follows the Disney formula for success. An easy to digest story for children and entertaining for parents. With well-developed characters and humor that is quite simple but ends up working.
As a stand alone movie I enjoyed it a lot, Buzz's odyssey as he tries to find a way to get his people home, the guilt of being trapped on the hostile planet and that each attempt causes him to lose years of life and the opportunity to live it with his friend Alisha Hawthorne.
While the film is simple to understand as I said before, it also tackles slightly deeper themes such as loneliness and the need to carry everything alone. These are things that when we watch the film as children we may overlook, but that some adults surely do notice and identify with.
The movie takes inspiration from other science fiction movies, such as Alien, Star Wars or back to the future. I even remember laughing when I saw it, realizing that the movie could easily be Interestellar for kids😂.
De los personajes creo que no tengo mucho que resaltar. Como dije, todos están bien desarrollados y cada uno cumple bien su función para la trama, todo esto con muchas dosis de risas. En este sentido Disney y Pixar casi siempre.
Si tengo que destacar a alguno sería a Sox, el gato robot. Esa es otra fija de Disney, los animales acompañantes o los sidekicks siempre son los que más hacen reír y a los que les tomamos mas cariño. Aquí no es la excepción.
I don't think I have much to say about the characters. As I said, they are all well developed and each one fulfills its function well for the plot, all this with many doses of laughter. In this sense Disney and Pixar almost always does well.

Quedan bastante de lado.
A ver, que se entienda, teóricamente el Buzz juguete debería tener en su cabeza la trama de Lightyear como la historia de su vida, pero sus acciones dentro de la película parecen como que su historia fuera otra. Y es lógico en 1995 nadie sabía que harían la historia del juguete 27 años más tarde y no es lo mismo lo que era atractivo para los niños en los 90 que en los ahora. Entiendo que la historia deba amoldarse a los tiempos que corren, pero entonces no me la vendan como la historia que Andy vio hace muchos años.
Un hecho gracioso respecto a esto es que en Toy Story 2 un juguete de Zurg y uno de Buzz Lightyear se encuentran y parodian el mítico momento que Luke Skywalker y Darth Vader tienen en Star wars.
The bad: The film's director Angus MacLane tells us that Lightyear is the movie Andy saw as a kid and the one that made him want to have his buzz Lightyear toy. It feels like the story of the buzz we knew in the Toy Story movies was a completely different story than Lightyear's and that disconnects a bit with the experience.

A funny fact about this is that in Toy Story 2 a Zurg toy and a Buzz Lightyear toy meet and parody the mythical that moment Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader have in Star Wars

Yo ya sabía no iban a seguir del todo este argumento en la película Lightyear porque sería muy obvio el plagio, pero… ESTO ES CANON SEÑORES, me explico, en el universo de Toy Story (que aquí es el mundo real) en la mente del Zurg de juguete esa es su historia y en la película de Lightyear ¡SPOILER! Zurg termina siendo el mismo Buzz en el futuro. O sea, no puede ser su padre como dijo en Toy Story 2.

A very funny and understandable moment because both toys draw their inspiration from Star wars. I already knew they were not going to follow this argument in the Lightyear movie because it would be too obvious plagiarism, but... THIS IS CANON GENTLEMEN, I mean, in the Toy Story universe (which here is the real world) in the mind of the toy Zurg that is his story and in the Lightyear movie SPOILER! Well, the reason is because it contains a couple from the LGBT community and a kiss between them. Even today this is a very sensitive issue to address because there are divided opinions on the subject, and cinema is not exempt from this. Focusing on the film, when I read the news I expected to find something completely different from what I saw. The movie shows us Buzz's companion once every few years between each trip Buzz makes through time, so we are shown in a summarized way the life of the commander and her relationship with another woman. In one of the visits that Buzz makes to her we can see a small kiss between the two of them because of their anniversary. The scene is so brief and so unforced that it almost goes unnoticed.
I couldn't help but wonder is this reason enough to cancel its release in an entire country and give bad reviews about the film? There are people who claim that it is not something that children should see in the cinema or that it is forced inclusion and I have to disagree on both points. First, we have a bad habit of underestimating children, who are smarter than we think and surely understand the world much better than us adults. You can take your child to see this movie and I'm sure he won't even flinch at the scene. And if this is not the case, it is as simple as explaining to them what a kiss or a token of love is. Not teaching people who are different does not make them cease to exist, sooner or later children should know and accept the world around them. Second, regarding whether it is forced inclusion, for some years the film industry has noticed the little or almost no inclusion they have given to minorities and marginalized communities and have wanted to give them more room and prominence in the current film, which is a great success but often have not known how to do. I can understand as forced inclusion when a character that already exists undergoes a change of race and/or sexual orientation without this having a real contribution to the plot. Ignored and marginalized communities should be included in movies yes, but with stories and characters of their own. In this sense, I think Disney is right in Lightyear, they give us a strong female character, of color and openly gay, even if only for a short period of time, without this being the center of the plot. It is possible to create such endearing characters without having to change what already exists. Aside from this the film does it subtly and without it feeling forced. If the film must fail, then let it fail on its own merit and not by trying to show the world as it is.
