Antes que todo aclaro que todos estos puntos simplemente vinieron a mi mente al ver la película, puede que simplemente no sea así y solo sea real desde mi punto de vista, vamos a ello… Quiero centrarme en las temáticas que tocan y de cómo la desarrollan más allá de la narración de la historia misma, sin embargo es importante mencionar algunas cosas de la narración para estar en contexto:
1.Los protagonistas de la película son Mia y Sebastian
2.Los dos son artistas, brillantísimos, al inicio ambos en la ruina, en busca de alcanzar sus metas: ser una gran actriz y Sebastian, conservar el jazz cómo genero músical.
3.Se enamoran uno del otro debido a lo apasionados y arraigados que son con sus sueños y metas.
Teniendo esto en cuenta, comencemos…
El primer tema que tocan es el de SER un artista en una sociedad moderna, en dónde el arte no es valioso por la calidad de éste sino por vender, si tu arte no vende, no es arte, así de crudo y simple, la capacidad de adaptación que uno como artista debe tener en la realidad actual, me parece bastante realista su percepción ya que muestra claramente lo selectivo y corto que es el mundo del arte ‘’exitoso’’ o bien pagado, todo lo que un buen artista, antes de llegar a ser conocido, debe pasar y superar, el interminable ensayo y error, mostrando en su inicio a Sebastian y Mia, dos artistas, brillantes e intensos, apasionados, pero aún así, irreconocidos, fracasados, al inicio…
Algo que me llama la atención de cómo tratan este elemento en la película es que muestran la verdad de cómo las mismas empresas o instituciones son los mismos que no aprecian el verdadero arte y lo ponen por debajo de una cara bonita o carisma (Las reiteradas escenas en donde Mía está en medio de una audición y la interrumpen por cosas tan vagas como comerse un sándwich o cuando Sebastian es obligado a tocar piezas mediocres que los músicos estamos hartos de repetir…) y todo esto viene acompañado de la fortaleza psicológica que un artista debe tener, o desarrollar para lograr sus objetivos y sobrevivir en este medio en la realidad actual.
La capacidad de reinvención que el artista debe desarrollar, esto me parece un poco polémico debido a la manera que se plantea, en la película, Sebastián es un obstinado de jazz, tradicionalista, el jazz puro, de hecho, la mayor parte de su frustración artística al inicio de la película es porque el jazz está muriendo, ya no es música de vanguardia, y por lo tanto, no es rentable. A medida que se va desarrollando la historia esto va cambiando debido a que Sebastian se una a una banda de música progresiva, en dónde interpretan jazz ‘’modernizado’’, esto al principio representa para Sebastian una abominación, debido al carácter obstinado y terco del personaje, pero luego esto va cambiando debido a la necesidad que este tiene en vivir como un individuo con poder y posición dentro de la sociedad, pero, ahí es donde surge mi pregunta ¿La reinvención de un artista surge por la búsqueda de ser mejores o por la necesidad de figurar?. Y es allí donde surge el siguiente punto que esta obra maestra cinematográfica desarrolla…
Ser fieles a nosotros mismos, cuándo es prudente evolucionar o reinventarse? Hasta qué punto existe la reinvención y hasta qué punto simplemente es un cambio generado por unna necesidad y presión social a la que los artistas se ven expuestos para existir? Son preguntas que llegan a mi mente cuando pienso en ello, entonces, acaso el arte no es algo bello y único que se genera a través de la expresión?, pero para expresar, hay que pensar, y si no somos fieles a nuestros pensamientos y principios ideológicos, realmente estamos haciendo arte? Espero algún día responder esas preguntas en mi mente…
La ambición y su poder en las personas, este punto se expresa claramente cuando Sebastián logra alcanzar el ‘’éxito’’ con su banda y comienza a tener una vida próspera, pero a la vez vacía, se aleja de sus seres cercanos y lo más importante sus sueños, al inicio de la película su mayor sueño era abrir un bar en donde se tocara la más pura y tradicional música jazz, vivía y moría por ello, pero a este punto, este ímpetu ya no existe en él, debido a que en su proceso de ´´reinvención’’ por necesidad, simplemente, se perdió a sí mismo y su concepción de la vida.
Para concluir, lo que me gustaría dejar como mensaje en este post es apreciar cómo a través de una película el director quiso plasmar (según mi percepción) la realidad de un artista en la actualidad tocando los distintos puntos que ya vimos y adentrándose y poniéndose del lado del ser, que siente, padece y lo más importante sueña.
Con respecto a la temática de La la land, esperen también de mi parte un bello cover en el que estaré trabajando próximamente, porque por supuesto, no puedo ignorar la genial banda sonora que este film tiene, peeero, eso será para otro post porque si no estarián todo un día solo leyéndome y escuchándome aquí jajaja.

The first point they touch on the movie is to be an artist in a modern society, where art is not valuable for its quality, the art in considered only art it sells, if your art does not sell, it is not art, that crude and simple, the ability adaptation that people as an artist must have in the current reality, his perception seems quite realistic to me since it clearly shows how selective and short the world of "successful" or well-paid art is, everything that a good artist, before to become known, he must pass and overcome, the endless trial and error, showing at the beginning Sebastian and Mia, two artists, bright and intense, passionates, but still, unrecognized, failed, at the beginning ...
Something that strikes me about how they talk about this element in the film is that they show the truth of how the same companies or institutions are the same ones that do not appreciate true art and put it under a pretty face or charisma (The repeated scenes where Mía is in the middle of an audition and is interrupted by things as vague as eating a sandwich or when Sebastian is forced to play mediocre pieces that musicians are tired of repeating ...) and all this is accompanied by the psychological strength that an artist you must have, or develop to achieve their goals and survive in this environment in today's reality.
The capacity for reinvention that the artist must develop, this seems to me a bit controversial due to the way it is posed, in the film, Sebastián is a stubborn jazz, traditionalist, pure jazz, in fact, most of his frustration artistic at the beginning of the film is because jazz is dying, it is no longer avant-garde music, and therefore, it is not profitable. As the story develops this is changing due to Sebastian joining a progressive music band, where they perform ''modernized'' jazz, this at first represents an abomination for Sebastian, due to the stubborn temperament of the character, but then this changes due to the need that he has to live as an individual with power and position in the society, but that is where my question arises: Does the reinvention of an artist arise from the search to be better or by the need to have a position in the media and society ?. And it is there where the next point that this cinematographic masterpiece develops ...
Being true to ourselves, when is it wise to evolve or reinvent yourself? Up to what point does reinvention exist and up to what point it is simply a change generated by a need and social pressure to which artists are exposed to exist? These are questions that come to my mind when I think about it, then, perhaps art is not something beautiful and unique that is generated through expression? But to express, you have to think, and if we are not faithful to our thoughts and ideological principles, are we really making art? I hope one day to answer those questions in my mind ...
Ambition and its power in people, this point is clearly expressed when Sebastián begings manages to achieve "success" with his band and begins to have a prosperous life, but at the same time empty, he moves away from his close relationships ones and the most important to his dreams, at the beginning of the film his biggest dream was to open a bar where the purest and most traditional jazz music would be played, he lived and died for it, but at this point, this impetus no longer exists in him, because In his process of "reinvention" out of necessity, he simply lost himself and his conception of life.
To conclude, what I would like to leave as a message in this post is to appreciate how through a film the director wanted to capture (according to my perception) the reality of an artist today by touching the different points that we already saw and entering and getting into the side of being, who feels, suffers and most importantly dreams.
Regarding the theme of La la land, also expect from me a beautiful cover that I will be working on soon, because of course, I cannot ignore the great soundtrack that this film has, but, that will be for another post because if They won't spend a whole day just reading and listening to me here hahaha.
