Introduction

Hello Friends,

This is my first post in this community! I've been reading movie and series reviews here, and I'm excited to write my own.

I recently watched the series "Dahmer", based on the real-life story of the American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. This crime thriller is one of the spookiest things I have ever watched on TV.

Crime thrillers have always intrigued me. I find it fascinating how someone can commit such horrifying acts and still try to get away with them. I also enjoy the eerie sensation while watching these shows. After watching Mindhunter on Netflix, I wasn’t sure if I would find anything similar, but Dahmer is right up there.

Plot & Storytelling

The series begins by introducing the main character and how he lures his victims into his place. Dahmer is portrayed as a polite and charming individual, which allows him to gain the trust of innocent people before committing unimaginable acts.

The story shifts between his present-day crimes and flashbacks to his childhood. It highlights how he was different from other children and how his parents’ failed marriage deeply affected him. As he grows up, he struggles to form real and lasting relationships, eventually giving in to his compulsions and desires—leading to a horrifying series of crimes over an extended period.

Cinematography & Direction

The creators and director have done a brilliant job in making this series a chilling and unsettling experience. The use of eerie music enhances the cold and disturbing atmosphere. Since this is based on real-life events, it adds another layer of horror and discomfort for the viewers.

Performance & Acting

The cast delivers excellent performances throughout the 10-episode series. The standout performance for me was Evan Peters, who portrayed Jeffrey Dahmer. His acting was phenomenal—his speech, body language, and mannerisms were so convincing that I couldn’t take my eyes off him. He truly brought the character to life in an unsettling way.

Themes & Social Commentary

What I liked most about the series was its deep dive into the psychological transformation of a serial killer—from a secretive, introverted child dealing with family problems to a disturbed individual exploring his dark urges.

The series also portrays social issues such as racial discrimination and the apathy of authorities toward the Black community in America at that time. These failures allowed Dahmer to continue his crimes for so long, making the show not just about the killer but also about the systemic issues that enabled him.

Many scenes in Dahmer are disturbing and difficult to watch, often making you want to look away. But they serve a purpose in showing the horrifying reality of his crimes.

Final Verdict

Dahmer is an intense and disturbing watch, but it’s a well-made series for those interested in crime thrillers.

Rating: 8/10

If you enjoy psychological crime dramas, this is definitely worth watching. Thanks for reading my review! I hope you liked it. It was exciting to write my first post, and I look forward to sharing more reviews of movies and TV shows.

Fantastic series. Evan Peters seems like an unlikely person to pull of this role but man oh man, did he truly nail it. This deviates from the real story a little bit in the racial tones that they have in it but it's Netflix. They can't make anything without trying to have some sort of social-reform messaging in their stuff. Everyone should see this I think, especially if they are fans of real crime stories.

I liked this series quite a bit. Although I only watched it once because of its disturbing content, I was delighted with Evan Peters' performance. Cheers! 🧡
