Hello everyone!
This time, I will invite all of you to read this post as my review of a film that is Indonesian, by Kamila Andini as a director and this film has won many awards (Indonesian film) and also this film has succeeded in making me like Indonesian films which have been difficult for a long time. accepted by me because of the many trash films scattered on Indonesian cinema screens.
Yuni's film, which was released in December last year, presents a story that relates to the lives of young women in Indonesia with many rumors of 'pamali' or something that should not be violated due to customs. One of the taboos is refusing proposals from men who come when a woman is mature enough to marry and this has become a big issue among the public. Especially when the proposal has come 3 times, so if you refuse, it is rumored that your mate will be kept away and that will make the woman single for the rest of her life.
Even though we live in the modern era, this taboo is still very strong in society, especially in rural or suburban communities. This became the attention of the director, who said this issue was his inspiration.
Prologue
At the beginning of the film, Yuni, the main character, played by Arawinda Kirana, is a smart and talented 12th grade senior high school student who goes to school and carries out activities like normal girls. Until one day there is a young man who is not far from Yuni's age, is a neighbor's child and is attracted for no reason to Yuni which makes him dare to come to Yuni's house who only lives with his grandmother. The man immediately proposed to Yuni, but unfortunately, Yuni was not interested in the proposal.
Yuni became the object of ridicule by the public and her friends when the second proposal from Indonesian language teacher Yuni proposed to her because Yuni accidentally saw the disgrace of the language teacher at Yuni's school, so that Yuni could keep her mouth shut with the disgrace.
After he rejected the teacher's proposal, Yuni was proposed by an old man who wanted to make Yuni a second wife, then everyone blamed Yuni for not accepting the previous proposal. Yuni also has other ways to be free from the proposal.
Review Yuni (2021)
This film has a plot that is so slow but explains in detail about the life of rural people who are too thick with customs. This film also uses regional languages which make it feel more pure rural vibes, the language used also makes this film not look awkward and stiff, although there are some misses that can be disguised because the acting of all the actors is very good.
I like makeup artists that look natural like rural people in general, not excessive and also perfectly set.
For me, although the story is slow, the details that are told are enough to make me understand Yuni's confused feelings about her future which makes this film even more curious. So that we can understand if our position as Yuni and Yuni's feelings are conveyed. It's so hard being a Yuni who is a talented student and has a bright future, but is hindered by a very ephemeral prohibition.
End of film
At the end of the film, even though it looks very vague with Yuni's story, who doesn't know what to choose in her life, Yuni becomes more open-minded when she plays the supporting role, Suci who changes herself and becomes more of a woman who hopes to be free from the shackles of rumors in society.
At the end of the film also has a deep meaning to the issue of women who should be more free to choose for their lives without having to think about what people say who constantly think negative, the stigma of women who are trapped by patriarchy and other women's issues in society.
See you in the next one :)

Learning from the culture and customs of your country, can a 12 year old girl get engaged in marriage? even if she doesn't like the boy or is not in love with him? omg, it's unbelievable, I defend that women should make their own decisions, I think these customs are from past centuries and are not adapted to the time we live in.
Many parents marry off their children to avoid economic hardship.
