When the phone rings....movie review.

My attraction to k-drama series got rooted a long time ago but like @jmis101 said, you should not watch an ongoing series to avoid heartbreak. Yep, k-drama is able to cause you heartbreak with their intense and soulful suspense that would keep you coming back for more.

The movie I am about to review today is titled When the phone rings. It is a recent k-drama series that began airing in November 2024. It has a total of twelve episodes with each episode running for an hour plus. The title of the movie was what actually caught my attention to it and I must say that it was fun all the way from episode one to the final episode.

You know that thing that some k-drama movies do where you don't understand the movie until the third or fourth episode, this movie is different. It draws you in from the start and it keeps you coming for more.

Synopsis

The movie revolves around a young and estranged couple who have been married for three years without speaking to each other. They lived in separate wings and rarely did anything as couple. Disaster strikes when the wife of the protagonist named Hong Hee Joo was kidnapped by a psychopath and she was used to threaten her husband named Paik Sae-on who happens to be a young and successful presidential spokesperson for the South Korean Government.

A smart move by Hong Hee Joo gave her a lee way of escape from the kidnapper who fainted in her car. She took his voice modulated cell phone and continued to threaten her husband for a divorce but later on she gave up the idea.

From that one kidnap incident, series of dirty family secrets began to unfold. Hong Hee Joo who played the mute wife began talking all of a sudden and it was revealed that her own mother ordered her not to speak again. Paik Sae-on also discovered that he is not the real son of the Paik family and rather he has been a stand in for the real Paik Sae-on who by the way is the psychopath kidnapper.

The twists and turns and dirty secrets being revealed eventually lead to the estranged couple working things out and finally professing their deep love for each other. At the end of the series, justice was served hot to the guilty ones and the true love birds lived happily ever after 😁.

Review

All I can say is that this movie series was intense, the cinematography and editing were top-notch. The protagonists played their parts really well, with each one displaying the right emotion were necessary. I must say that I cried a few times myself when some scenes played out.

The complicated lifestyle of the aristocratic Asian family and their wierd and dirty secrets were aptly shown in this movie. Costumes and use of language was also very good abd the soundtrack was really good too. It blended well with the scenes. The storyline was also kind of unique as I could not predict the next thing that would unfold.

All in all, I will rate this movie an 8/10. It was worth my entire twelve hours of viewing.

Thank you all for reading... Shalom
