Hello Hello internet people how are you? Today I want to talk to you about a movie that I just saw and that left many thoughts in my head because of its depth, normally, when I do any movie or TV series review I like to talk about the technical aspects, like the script, the soundtrack and above all the photography, however I feel that I should focus much more on the story and the performances because honestly this movie requires it to be just like that.
Hola Hola gente de internet ¿Cómo están? Hoy quiero hablarles de una película que acabo de ver y que me dejó muchos pensamientos en la cabeza debido a su profundidad, normalmente, cuando hago alguna review de películas o series de televisión me gusta me gusta hablar de los aspectos técnicos, como el guion, el soundtrack y sobre todo la fotografía, sin embargo siento que debo enfocarme mucho más en la historia y las actuaciones porque honestamente esta película requiere que sea precisamente así.
Snow Cake
The film tells the story of an Englishman named Alex who lives in Canada, he is a lonely man, after having been in prison and his son growing up far from him, he is not sociable, for that reason he feels a little out of place when he meets the extroverted Vivienne, a young girl who decides to sit next to him in a coffee shop. Unlike him she was very talkative and was always telling him about her mother, and that she was planning to visit her to help her with some things and also to bring her some luminous toys (something that intrigued Alex a lot) then Vivienne asks Alex to take her to her city since he takes the same route as her, at first he refuses but then reluctantly agrees, but to their bad luck, they had a serious car accident where Vivienne lost her life. Alex then decides to finish the trip to give the news to Linda, the girl's mother, and give her the toys she planned to give her, but when he gets there and sees the woman he notices that she has a very strange behavior, she does not even flinch at the serious news and that is when Alex realizes the situation, Linda, Vivianne's mother has autism, so he decides to stay with her for a few days to help her.
La película nos cuenta la historia de un inglés llamado Alex que vive en Canadá, es un hombre solitario, luego de haber estado en prisión y que su hijo creciera lejos de él, no es sociable, por esa razón se siente un poco fuera de lugar cuando conoce a la extrovertida Vivienne, una jovencita que decide sentarse junto a él en una cafetería. A diferencia de él ella era muy locuaz y en todo momento estaba hablándole de su madre, y que planeaba ir a visitarla para ayudarla con algunas cosas y además llevarle algunos juguetes luminosos (algo que intrigó mucho a Alex) luego Vivienne le pide a Alex que la lleve hasta su ciudad ya que lleva la misma ruta que ella, al inicio él se niega pero luego accede a regañadientes, pero para mala suerte de ambos, tuvieron un grave accidente automovilístico donde Vivienne perdió la vida. Alex decide entonces terminar el viaje para darle la noticia a Linda, la madre de la chica, y entregarle los juguetes que ella pensaba darle, pero al llegar allá y ver a la mujer nota que tiene un comportamiento muy extraño, ni siquiera se inmuta ante la grave noticia y es cuando Alex cae en la cuenta de la situación, Linda, la madre de Vivianne tiene autismo, así que decide quedarse con ella unos días para ayudarla.
Let's see, one of the things that I liked and surprised me the most about this film was to see the tremendous evolution of the characters, all so different from each other, but it is fascinating to see how they discover that although we must be self-sufficient, in the end we all need each other and hence the importance of a healthy coexistence. At the beginning Alex has a hard time dealing with Linda's personality, who in addition to her autism suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) so she feels the imperious need to clean and tidy up constantly, but she agrees to let Alex live with her because she needs him for some things, like making him take out the garbage on the days Vivianne used to do it. What amazes most is her way of seeing life, so simple and human at the same time, she doesn't flinch with Vivianne's death because she doesn't feel she lost her, somehow she knows she still exists and Alex for his part learns to open his heart, learns to laugh and to be a child again in a certain way.
A ver, una de las cosas que más me gustó y me sorprendió de esta película fue ver la tremenda evolución que hay en los personajes, todos tan diferentes entre sí, pero resulta fascinante ver como descubren que si bien debemos ser autosuficientes, al final todos nos necesitamos y de ahí la importancia de que exista una sana convivencia. Al inicio a Alex le cuesta muchísimo lidiar con la personalidad de Linda, quien además de su condición de autismo sufre de un Trastorno Obsesivo Compulsivo (TOC) así que siente la necesidad imperiosa de limpiar y ordenar constantemente, pero accede a dejar que Alex viva con ella porque lo necesita para algunas cosas, como hacer que él saque la basura los días que Vivianne solía hacerlo. Lo que más asombra es su forma de ver la vida, tan simple y humana a la vez, ella no se inmuta con la muerte de Vivianne porque no siente que la perdió, de alguna forma sabe que ella sigue existiendo y Alex por su parte aprende a abrir su corazón, aprende a reír y a volver a ser niño de cierta forma.
The performances were great, and how could they not be? if we had as main characters none other than Alan Rickman as Alex Hughes and Sigourney Weaver as Linda Freeman, and although Alan's performance had that depth, elegance and panache that always characterized all his characters, I can't help but admit that who excelled on this occasion was Sigourney Weaver, and her character deserved it, however, with a character of this caliber she ran the enormous risk of generating an impact contrary to what was desired, as was the case of Maddie Ziegler's performance in the film Music, by Sia, where the girl did not represent the disease, she practically flirted with it, but it is understandable due to the inexperience of an “actress” who really has more gifts as a dancer, Sigourney instead is noted that she researched very well the disorder that her character would have and replicated each characteristic in a very accurate way in her performance.
Las actuaciones estuvieron geniales, y ¿Cómo no iban a ser así? si teníamos como personajes principales a nada más y nada menos que a Alan Rickman como Alex Hughes y a Sigourney Weaver como Linda Freeman, y si bien la actuación de Alan tuvo esa profundidad, elegancia y garbo que siempre caracterizó a todos sus personajes, no puedo dejar de admitir que quien se lució en esta ocasión fue Sigourney Weaver, y es que su personaje lo ameritaba, sin embargo, con un personaje de este calibre ella corría el enorme riesgo de generar un impacto contrario a lo que se deseaba, como fue el caso de la actuación de Maddie Ziegler en la película Music, de Sia, donde la chica no representó a la enfermedad, prácticamente la parodeó, pero es algo entendible debido a la inexperiencia de una "actriz" quien realmente tiene más dotes como bailarina, Sigourney en cambio se nota que investigó muy bien el trastorno que tendría su personaje y replicó cada característica de forma muy acertada en su actuación.

In my case I'm not very technical 😅, I go more just for what you have focused in this review, that character evolution pleases me and that is consistent with a story that captivates, I see that there are varied characters who manage to change their mentalities, I see that as very positive because there are many light stories but I appreciate seeing the effort in narrative to make the characters change as it happens with people in real life as they live events or situations.
I have not seen this one and neither the one you name of Sia but I knew the critics to that last one of Sia and her actress, I remember that one of the critics that called my attention was because it was not represented or acted by a person with that condition, could stay or drag that criticism in that film to here too, from my part I think that both cases is fine, the important thing is that the performance or the character is fine.
I will keep in mind the Sia's film that you mentioned, I haven't seen it yet and my mind had already forgotten it and if I liked the suggestion to have this option to see Sigourney Weaver again, I haven't seen her for a long time 😃
