Hello, Internet people. Today I want to make a somewhat peculiar post because this time I want to talk about one of my favorite episodes of Courage, The Cowardly Dog, and it is “King Ramses´Curse”.
Hola, gente de Internet. Hoy quiero hacer un post un tanto peculiar y es que, en esta ocasión quiero hablarles de uno de mis episodios preferidos de Coraje, El Perro Cobarde, el cual es "La Maldición del Rey Ramses"
Many people think that it is not necessary to make horror content for children, however, for that small percentage of peculiar children (like me in that time) even though we were scared of shows like this or “Ned's Nightmares” we also enjoyed it (it was the same feeling that I experience now with horror games and movies of the same genre). This was my favorite show along with Scooby Doo, so today we will analyze as I said, my favorite episode.
Mucha gente cree que no es necesario hacer contenido de terror para niños, sin embargo, para ese escaso porcentaje de niños peculiares (como yo lo fui) aunque nos daba miedo programas como este o "Las Pesadillas de Ned" También lo disfrutábamos (era la misma sensación que experimento ahora con juegos de terror y películas del mismo género). Este era mi programa preferido junto con Scooby Doo, así que hoy analizaremos como dije, mi episodio preferido.
The plot is that a pair of thieving cats stole the King Ramses tablet from the museum and are being chased by the police, the two stop in front of Courage's house and bury the loot, however on their way back to the car, a figure appears asking them to return the tablet or they will suffer a curse, when they ask “what curse?” a plague of what looks like locusts comes out of nowhere and takes them away. The next morning, while Courage plays in the yard, he digs up the slab, and like any little dog, takes it home where, Eustace first discards it but upon seeing on TV that it is an authentic slab of King Ramses, he keeps it to collect a reward for it, thus unleashing the King's curse on his home.
El argumento es que un par de gatos ladrones robaron la tabilla del Rey Ramsés del museo y están siendo perseguidos por la policía, los dos se detienen frente a la casa de Coraje y entierran el botín, sin embargo al regresa al auto, se les aparece una figura pidiéndoles devolver la tabilla o sufrirán una maldición, cuando ellos preguntan "¿cual maldición?" una plaga de lo que parecen langostas surge de la nada y se los lleva. A la mañana siguiente, mientras coraje juega en el patio, desentierra la tablilla, y como todo perrito, la lleva a casa donde, Justo primero la desecha pero al ver en la televisión que es una tablilla autentica del rey Ramses, la guarda para cobrar una recompensa por ella, desatando así la maldición del Rey sobre su hogar.
I have to say that although it is a show for children, the episodes have an excellent handling of terror, for example this episode has a mysterious intro in which the ghost of King Ramses does not appear directly but reflected in the shadow cast by the moonlight on the car of the cats, in addition, it has a guttural and enigmatic voice that helps a lot to instill fear, it is excellent.
Tengo que decir que aunque es un programa para niños, los episodios tienen un manejo excelente del terror, por ejemplo este episodio tiene una intro misteriosa en la que el fantasma del Rey Ramses no aparece directamente, sino reflejado en la sombra que proyecta la luz de la luna en el auto de los gatos, además, tiene una voz gutural y enigmática que ayuda mucho a infundir miedo, es excelente.
One of the best things in the show is the visual art it has, where many times they combine animation by drawing (most of the episode) and 3d computer animation, as is the case of the modeling of the ghost of King Ramses, doing this raises the level of unease as it looks very different from all the rest of the environment and what we are used to and that's why it's quite scary. Una de las mejores cosas en el programa es el arte que tiene, donde muchas veces combinan la animación por dibujo (la mayor parte del episodio) y la animación 3d por computadora, como es el caso del modelado del fantasma del Rey Ramses, al hacer esto sube el nivel de inquietud ya que se ve muy diferente a todo el resto del entorno y a lo que estamos acostumbrados, y es por eso que asusta bastante. Another aspect I love about this show is that you can be dying of fear (of course being a kid) one moment, and the next dying of laughter because, although it is a horror show, clearly, being for children also has to have comic relief, in this case and how could it be otherwise, Eustace is who brings more comedy (along with the exaggerated and comic reactions of Courage every time he gets scared) I died of laughter (and it still happens to me) every time the miser Eustace told Ramses “what is you offer? “ referring to the reward he wanted to collect to return the slab.
Otro de los aspectos que amo de esta serie es que puedes estar muriendo de miedo (por supuesto siendo niño) en un momento, y al siguiente morir de risa ya que, aunque es un programa de terror, claramente, al ser para niños también tiene que tener alivio cómico, en este caso y como no podía ser de otro modo, Justo es quién más comedia aporta (junto con las reacciones exageradas y cómicas de Coraje cada vez que se asusta) moría de risa (y me sigue pasando) cada vez que el avaro de Justo le decía a Ramses "¿cuando ofrece?" refiriéndose a la recompensa que quería cobrar para devolver la tablilla.
Another of my favorite parts is when the second plague occurs (the one with the loud music) and Courage starts looking for the source of the sound all over the property, and his way of searching is very funny, pulling out a pole to draw water or lifting Eustace's truck as if it weighed nothing, all with a very funny naturalness worthy of a cartoon.
Otra de mis partes preferidas es cuando ocurre la segunda plaga (la de la música muy alta) y Coraje empieza a buscar el origen del sonido por toda la propiedad, y su forma de buscar es muy graciosa, arrancando un poste de sacar agua o levantando la camioneta de Justo como si no pesara nada, todo con una naturalidad muy graciosa digna de una caricatura.
As the episode progresses the reactions of the characters become more absurd, which increases the comedy, in the last plague (the locusts) Muriel runs out screaming with her arms up, then she is seen cooking quickly as if to take advantage of her last moment in the house, while Eustace and Courage start to fight for the slab, one to return it and the other to keep it until seeing the locusts above them finally Eustace gets scared and leaves it for Courage to return it, however later he regrets and picks up the slab again to later be taken away by Ramses and his locusts. When Muriel and Courage (very calm and happy by the way) are watching the news, they say that the slab has been returned to Ramses' tomb and when they focus on it they see an image of Eustace on the tablet which means that he was caught in it but the funniest thing is that they hear “what's your offer?” 🤣🤣
Conforme avanza el episodio las reacciones de los personajes se vuelven más absurdas, lo que aumenta la comedia, en la última plaga (las langostas) Muriel sale corriendo gritando con los brazos hacia arriba, después se la ve cocinando con rapidez como para aprovechar su último momento en la casa, mientras Justo y Coraje se ponen a pelear por la tabilla, uno para devolverla y el otro para quedársela hasta que al ver las langostas sobre ellos finalmente Justo se asusta y se la deja a Coraje para que la devuelva, sin embargo después se arrepiente y recoge de nuevo la tabilla para posteriormente ser llevado por Ramsés y sus langostas. Cuando Muriel y Coraje (muy tranquilos y felices dicho sea de paso) están mirando las noticias, dicen que la tablilla ha sido devuelta a la tumba de Ramsés, y al enfocarla se ve una imagen de Justo en la tablilla, lo que quiere decir que fue atrapado en ella pero lo más gracioso es que se oye "¿Cuanto Ofrece?" 🤣🤣
I have to say that I haven't seen this episode since I was a child and it is just as good as I remembered it, of course the episode no longer scares me but I recognize that its handling of terror is very good, it generates expectation, tension and fear, it is also very funny, in fact even as an adult it causes a lot of laughter, usually when we go back to see programs we saw as teenagers or children and we see it again as adults, usually a kind of disappointment happens in a way, however with Courage The Cowardly Dog this didn't happen to me, it is still as good as I remembered it.
Tengo que decir que no veía este episodio desde que era niña y es igual de bueno a como lo recordaba, por supuesto ya no me asusta el episodio pero reconozco que su manejo del terror es muy bueno, genera expectación tensión y miedo, además también es muy gracioso, de hecho aun siendo adulta causa mucha risa, por lo general cuando volvemos a ver programas que veíamos de adolescentes o de niños y lo volvemos a ver de adultos, suele ocurrir una especie de decepción de cierto modo, sin embargo con Coraje el Perro Cobarde no me pasó así, sigue siendo tan buena como la recordaba.

Sí, de hecho, ese es el punto que la valentía no es la ausencia del miedo sino enfrentarse a ellos y eso es precisamente Coraje, por eso se llama así :3 y sí a mi también me encanta

Muchachonaaa hola 😃/, ajjajaja recuerdo muy bien a coraje, buenos y maravillosos tiempos, ahora que de mayor he notado mi fascinación por culturas antiguas como la egipcia tendré en mente este capítulo en específico porque no recuerdo haberlo visto, recuerdo el del dentista jaja pero no a Ramses así que supongo debe ir por el tópico momias 😃
Con Scooby Doo tengo sentimientos encontrados, me agradaba pero no el perro jaja y también que la formula era demasiado repetitiva, en coraje es bien porque tiene su formula bien definida pero cada capítulo logra diferenciarse del otro
Lo del 3d son cosas que ahora si pudiera aparecer mejor porque en aquellos tiempos de peque solo lo vería extraño y si, este show logro combinar satisfactoriamente el terror con el humor, los rostros son exagerados a niveles absurdos y eso precisamente agrada y hace reír jaja
Hahaha sí, después hablaré de otros episodios, de hecho tengo dos en mente ya
Scooby y Coraje tienen fórmulas predefinidas, en Coraje es lo mismo, se plantea la problemática, casi siempre afecta sobre todo a Muriel y coraje como la ama siempre debe salvarla, enfrentando sus miedos
Aun en su tiempo el 3d estaba bien dentro del show porque al ser niños no éramos conscientes de esto, sin embargo, nos generaba extrañeza y a la vez miedo, por eso son los fantasmas o los villanos los que duelen ser en 3d para generar miedo. Muchas gracias por el comentario :3
