Los dos hemisferios de Lucca is a Mexican film released in 2025, it is a family drama about Lucca, a boy who during his birth lacked oxygen in his brain, which caused him cerebral palsy, Barbara his mother has felt guilty all his life, for her, not knowing how to push during childbirth was what caused the brain damage to her son, since his birth the diagnosis of Lucca was little hopeful, the child could not speak or move or even recognize who was his mother and father.

Los dos hemisferios de Lucca es una película mexicana estrenada en el 2025, es un drama familiar sobre Lucca, un niño al que durante su nacimiento le faltó oxígeno en el cerebro, lo que le ocasionó parálisis cerebral, Bárbara su madre se ha sentido culpable toda la vida, para ella, el no haber sabido pujar durante el parto fue lo que le ocasionó el daño cerebral a su hijo, desde recién nacido el diagnóstico de Lucca fue poco esperanzador, el niño no iba a poder hablar ni moverse ni siquiera iba poder reconocer quién era su mamá y su papá.
Barbara was very persistent, her very feeling of guilt made her look for many types of therapies to take Lucca, she never gave up, she never rested in the hope that her son would at some point have advances in his development, no matter how minimal. When Barbara found out about a new scientific discovery, the Cytotron, developed by Dr. Kumar in India and contacted the doctor’s Mexican partner to give her son the opportunity to be treated with Cytotron, since according to the recommendations a very important politician in Mexico had undergone this treatment after a brain disease that had prevented him from walking and talking and after a month of treatment he had been able to recover his speech and part of his mobility.
After so much insistence because at the beginning Lucca was not given the opportunity to be a patient for the treatment, since he was a child and the equipment had not been tested on children, but Barbara insisted so much until she had the confirmation, she and her husband were able to mortgage their apartment in order to raise the money that was supposedly being asked as payment for the treatment and they had to pay for the trip because the whole family was going to India.
Bárbara fue muy persistente, su mismo sentimiento de culpa hizo que ella buscara muchos tipos de terapias para llevar a Lucca, nunca se dio por vencida, no descansó con la esperanza de que su hijo en algún momento tuviera avances en su desarrollo, por mínimo que fuera. Cuando Bárbara se entera de un nuevo descubrimiento científico, el Cytotron, desarrollado por el doctor Kumar en la India y se pone en contacto con el socio mexicano del doctor para que su hijo tenga la oportunidad de ser tratado con él Cytotron, ya que según las recomendaciones un político muy importante en México se había sometido a ese tratamiento después de una enfermedad cerebral que le habían impedido caminar y hablar y luego de un mes de tratamiento había podido recuperar el habla y parte de su movilidad.
Después de tanto insistir porque al principio no se le daba la oportunidad a Lucca de ser paciente para el tratamiento, ya que era un niño y el equipo no había sido probado en niños, pero Bárbara insistió tanto hasta que tuvo la confirmación, ella y su esposo fueron capaces de hipotecar su departamento con tal de reunir el dinero que supuestamente se le estaba pidiendo como pago del tratamiento y tenían que costear el viaje porque toda la familia se iría para la India.
The first 7 days of treatment were fatal, Barbara came to think that she had made a mistake, that her insistence was making her son suffer more and that maybe she should just let him be, accept that he was born with this condition and that this was how he was going to spend his whole life, after the first week of treatment Lucca began to see changes, he began to eat, laugh, he began to pronounce words, When it was time to return to Mexico, Dr. Kumar offered to receive them again in India to continue Lucca’s treatment, but the family knew that it was too expensive to return, at that moment Barbara found out that maybe there was another way to get her son to continue with the treatment and as in the whole movie she did nothing but fight and insist for her son’s well being.
This movie had a lump in my throat and in my chest at all times, to the point of making me cry. It is an adaptation of Barbara Anderson’s autobiographical book, where she describes her life as a mother of a child with cerebral palsy and what she had to go through. Knowing that it was a real life story because at the end they show you real pictures of the characters and tell you what has happened with the Cytotron and the progress of Lucca’s condition, made me feel it more personal and I cried a lot more.
Los primeros 7 días de tratamiento fueron fatales, Bárbara llegó a pensar que se había equivocado, que su insistencia estaba haciendo que su hijo sufriera más y que tal vez debía dejarlo simplemente ser, aceptar que había nacido con esa condición y que así iba a pasar toda su vida, después de la primera semana de tratamiento en Lucca se empezaron a ver cambios, empezó a comer, reír, empezó a pronunciar palabras, fueron muchas los avances que se tuvo gracias al tratamiento, cuando llegó la hora de regresar para México el doctor kumar ofreció recibirlos nuevamente en la India para seguir el tratamiento de Lucca, pero la familia sabía que era muy costoso para regresar, en ese momento Bárbara se entera que tal vez existía otra manera de lograr que su hijo siguiera con el tratamiento y como en toda la película no hizo más que luchar e insistir por el bienestar de su hijo.
Está película me hizo un nudo en la garganta y en el pecho en todo momento, hasta el punto de hacerme llorar. Es una adaptación del libro autobiográfico de Bárbara Anderson, dónde describe su vida como madre de un niño con parálisis cerebral y lo que ha tenido que pasar. Al conocer que era una historia de la vida real porque al final te muestran fotografía reales de los personajes y te cuentan que ha pasado con el Cytotron y el avance de la condición de Lucca, hizo que la sintiera más personal y llorara mucho más.
I really loved this movie, I really recommend it, I don’t know if I would watch it again because I would have to cry again, but I think I would definitely watch it several times, it is a demonstration of love, perseverance and struggle. I loved Bárbara Mori’s performance in the role of Bárbara, she was a warrior mother. As I said, I recommend it.
Me encantó esta película de verdad que la recomiendo, no sé si la volvería a ver porque tendría que llorar otra vez, pero creo que sin duda más adelante la vería varias veces, es una demostración de amor, perseverancia y lucha. La actuación de Bárbara Mori en el papel de Bárbara me encantó, fue una madre guerrera. Cómo ya dije, se las recomiendo.

No había escuchado sobre esta película, pero la forma en que describes la lucha de Bárbara y la conexión real con la historia de Lucca se ve genial. Suena como un viaje emocional brutal. Anotada queda para verla (con una caja de pañuelos al lado, claro). ¡Gracias por compartir algo que claramente te movió tanto!
