Our Flag Means Death is a romantic comedy tv show created by David Jenkins.
The show follows Stede Bonnet when he gets tired of his boring rich life, and decides he wants to leave all that behind and become a pirate instead, he gets a luxurious ship, a crew of outcasts, and sails away seeking adventure. In this story we meet a different take on famous characters from the past such as Blackbeard, Calico Jack, The Gentleman Pirate and Israel Hands (or Izzy Hands as we know him in the show) and their adventures and disadventures of being "terrible" pirates.
It's an original and unique take of the pirate story, the characters in this show are more goofy lovable outcasts and than murderous drunken thieves (at least most of them).
it's packed with increรญbly funny improvisation from the cast the script is witty, hilarious and surprisingly moving.
The acting is wonderful.
I think the chemistry between Taika (Ed/Blackbeard) and Rhys (Stede) makes a big difference when it comes to the relationship of the two characters, I feel like that storyline wouldn't work as well if they were played by actors who barely knew each other.
I binge watched it and honestly it was the right call because I was hooked from the first episode. But maybe I'm biased because (so far) I've loved everything Taika is involved in.
I was lured in by the the cast, and I stayed for the writing, the comedy, romance and the photography.
I give it a ๐๐๐๐1/2 out of 5 bees. I genuinely enjoyed it very much and will gladly watch it again. It's a chill funny story to watch when you're feeling down or simply want a laugh.
You can tell everyone had the time of their life working on the show from the cast to the crew, and when something is fun and made with love, it shows, and Our Flag Means Death definitely had that. A hundred percent recommend, it might not be for everyone since the comedy is very silly and English. But if like me, that's your cup of tea, you're in for a ride.
