Hi all friends, let me introduce myself, my name is Rico, this is my other account, here I will review a film that I just finished watching. The Northman film centers on Amleth (Alexander Skarsgård), a Viking prince whose life changes completely after his father, King Aurvandil (Ethan Hawke), is killed by his own uncle, Fjölnir (Claes Bang). Not only that, his mother, Queen Gudrún (Nicole Kidman), is also kidnapped and becomes the wife of the traitor. This tragic incident makes Amleth, who is still a child, have to run away, but he vows to take revenge, save his mother, and reclaim what is rightfully his.
Years later, Amleth grows into a fierce and very strong Viking warrior. He lives among brutal warriors who like to plunder villages and slaughter people. But when he heard the news that Fjölnir had lost his throne and now lives in Iceland, he immediately changed his plans. Disguised as a slave, he entered Fjölnir's territory and began his actions. after growing up, he heard news that his uncle lost the war and had to be exiled to the north, well this is where he disguised himself as a slave to be sent to where his uncle and mother were.
From the beginning of the film, we have been shown strange rituals and mystical visions. Amleth has received several instructions from the gods and his ancestors through dreams and visions that are very surreal. One of the most epic is when he meets Olga (Anya Taylor-Joy), a Slavic girl who has magical powers and helps him carry out his mission.
In addition, there is also a scene where Amleth must get a sacred sword that can only be used at certain times. This gives a mythological nuance that makes this film feel more like a dark fairy tale than just an ordinary action film.
Alexander Skarsgård really goes all out as Amleth. His big and muscular body makes him look like a wild animal, but on the other hand, his facial expressions can show the pain and trauma that he has carried since childhood. Nicole Kidman as Queen Gudrún also appears extraordinary, especially in the final scenes that show the complexity of her character. Anya Taylor-Joy, as usual, appears stunning as Olga, with her mysterious charm that makes this character more than just an ordinary love interest. Well here Amleth has started to make plans after plans to avenge his uncle, he starts to create terrifying terrors that make many of his uncle's soldiers die and even the priest Fyer whom he trusts.
until finally Amleth was found out and his uncle's son was killed with the legendary sword Draug that he owned.
Here Olga is almost caught in cahoots with Amleth, finally Amleth shows himself and is caught, after that Olga helps him get free again, they plan to escape but it turns out that Olga is honest that she is pregnant.
because he was afraid that his child's future would be in danger because of his uncle's revenge, he left Olga on the ship and returned to continue his revenge, finally he attacked his uncle's settlement himself and found his mother almost killed him but Amleth managed to fend him off besides that he also killed his uncle's second child there.
His uncle came and met him, finally they agreed to settle their grudge at the gate of hell, well here the fight was very exciting, on top of an erupting volcano. With the red lighting of boiling lava, the fight feels like a duel between two gods of war. There is a tragic and satisfying nuance that makes us reflect after the film is over. both his uncle and amleth, they both died.
