Hi fellow TV Fans,
Today I wanted to share one of my guilty pleasures for TV watching: Homestead Rescue!
Guilty Pleasure: Homestead Rescue
One of the things I don't do a whole lot of is watching TV for various reasons. Especially being here on Hive, I would rather spend some time commenting or something, to have some increased engagement or potential rewards coming in. Occasionally though I will spend some time watching what I think is an awesome show!
I am completely supportive of things that help us learn something. One thing I almost always do when watching Homestead Rescue is learn something! I know that especially with the past year or two people are really trying to get the hell out of Dodge and get onto homesteading. This has been an interest of mine if we could swing it but I don't know how it will go politically with my wife hahaha so in the meantime, I will just watch the show and learn what I can! The dad, Marty, has some really ingenious ways of figuring out and fixing situations that I think is amazing and a remarkable trait to have! I have definitely learned many things from him and will continue to learn them in the future. I would love to get some skills and exposure to chainsaws like he has!
The other reason I enjoy the show is our son is naturally attracted to outdoors stuff and is always looking to explore that aspect of life. I want to instill in him as early as I can that we are able to do things for ourselves, both in our own life as well as some of the shows that we've watched. I don't let him watch the horse shit cartoons for the most part, besides some decent ones on Disney but otherwise we keep to good programming like this.
What I really enjoy about the show is that they present real-life challenges that people are having when they are trying to get away from the shit of the world and creating their own homestead. I've taken some of the things I've learned from the show and seriously applied them in real life!
I was helping a friend move into his house a few years ago and one of the things that happened is the moving van got stuck in the snow/mud combo that occurred. Having watched this awesome show, I learned that you need to stick something firm under the tire like a piece of wood or something flat and gives the tire some grip. We ended up using a brick from his pavers that led to his house and boom! The moving van was able to get out of the rut it made.
There are things in life that happen to me and one of them is that when I come to enjoy something, it gets cancelled or removed hahaha. My favorite foods and sauces and stuff get cancelled once I get hooked on something. I'm seriously hoping that this show doesn't get cancelled! It's definitely one of my favorite things to watch on TV, which isn't very often.
You?

I've never heard of this show, but I'm certainly intrigued now.
Your story of the moving van reminded me of the time hubby got the rear wheel drive Ute stuck in soft sand. We'd gotten a fair way in before it dig in, so it took us a while to get it back to solid ground, bit by bit with foraged wood and large stones.
The show is awesome for sure! I don't know if you'll have access to all of them but there's 9 seasons so if you do, plenty of shows for you to watch!
Getting stuck in sand like that is hard! I’ve only driven on sand once since we typically don’t get to do that around here, beaches are largely the only places with sand and can’t drive on those, but it’s super soft sometimes! Glad you were able to get it out by getting some traction under the wheels with stuff around!
There are so many life hacks from this show it’s hard to remember them all but the guys got so much ingenuity it’s remarkable!
Hubby's been watching quite a few survival type YouTube videos lately. I should mention this one to him. He loves seeing practical life hacks. That's assuming we can access it here.
Yeah I’ve been on a survivor kick the past few years with shows lol. What channels does he watch on YouTube for that? For life survival I’ve enjoyed Survivorman with Les Stroud, he used to be on mainstream television and actually kicked off the trend to make survival stuff 10 years or so ago!
I’ve also been enjoying a family focused channel called adventure agents where a guy that didn’t have survival experience in the past learns it with his son and daughter. We actually made our own YouTube channel to do some similar stuff and it’s a lot of fun! Not ready to share our link on here yet but we are enjoying it!
I have not watched the show. With the description you provided, I can tell you that I will like it. I watch a lot of HGTV shows when I have time after taking care of the kid and the regular work. I love these reality construction shows. They give me ideas on what to do with the new house toy I have :)
That’s great! It’s an awesome show for sure. I love watching it for the fact that I will always learn something from it! Educational, truly educational, TV shows are so much better than shit to just waste time on. Thanks for checking it out!
