Hocus Pocus is a 1993 American Halloween comedy horror film directed by Kenny Ortega, starring Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker. The film follows the Sanderson sisters, three witches who are resurrected in Salem on Halloween night. Hocus Pocus was released to mixed reviews, but was a commercial success, grossing $39 million domestically.

The movie opens with a scene set in the 1690s in Salem, Massachusetts. Three witches, Winifred (Bette Midler), Mary (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) are sentenced to death by hanging for their practices. As they are about to be executed, the witches cast a spell that will allow them to return if a virgin lights the black flame candle on Halloween night.

Cut to 300 years later, and we meet Max Dennison (Omri Katz), a teenager who has just moved to Salem from Los Angeles. He is exploring the town with his sister, Dani (Thora Birch), when they stumble upon the Sanderson sisters' cottage. Max enters the cottage and finds the black flame candle, and lights it in spite of his sister's warnings. This resurrects the witches, and they set out to find a virgin to complete their spell.

The movie is lighthearted and funny, but also has some suspenseful and scary moments. If you're looking for a Halloween movie that's appropriate for all ages, Hocus Pocus is a great choice.
