¡Hola amigos! Me sigo poniendo al día con algunas películas que tenía en mi lista de pendientes, en esta oportunidad le tocó el turno a La sustancia. Y acá les traigo mi reseña al respecto.
Hello friends! I keep catching up with some movies that I had on my pending list, this time it was the turn of The Substance. And here I bring you my review about it.

La historia sigue a una actriz muy exitosa que justo el día que cumple 50 años es despedida de su programa de televisión por ya estar pasada de edad, de belleza y de moda. Ella queda devastada y es ahí cuando se conectan con ella de un laboratorio secreto para ofrecerle la sustancia, una inyección que le garantiza transformarla en una versión mejorada de sí misma, donde las células del cuerpo se separan y crean a otra mucho más joven y hermosa. Así vivirá una doble vida, hasta que la otra empieza a tomar el control de su vida llevándola a un deterioro sin retorno y ahí tendrá que tomar una decisión drástica, que también la afectará a ella, para detenerla.
The story follows a very successful actress who just on her 50th birthday is fired from her TV show for being past her prime, past her beauty and past her prime. She is devastated and that is when they connect with her from a secret laboratory to offer her the substance, an injection that guarantees to transform her into an improved version of herself, where the body cells separate and create a much younger and more beautiful one. So she will live a double life, until the other begins to take control of her life leading her to a deterioration without return and then she will have to make a drastic decision, which will also affect her, to stop it.

Había evitado ver esta película en su momento por todos los comentarios que hubo al respecto contando casi toda la trama o las partes claves. También tenía cierta aversión porque leí que hubo gente que se desmayó en el cine o vomitó y me sugestiono. Lo bueno de verla es que pude constatar que algunos son muy flojos para las escenas sangrientas o yo tengo un estómago entrenado, quizás ambas. La cuestión es que si te impresionas fácilmente no veas esta película porque la podes pasar mal.
I had avoided seeing this movie at the time because of all the comments about it telling almost all the plot or key parts. I also had a certain aversion because I read that there were people who fainted in the theater or vomited and it got me suggestible. The good thing about seeing it is that I was able to ascertain that some people are too lazy for gory scenes or I have a trained stomach, maybe both. The point is that if you are easily impressed don't see this movie because you might have a bad time.
Volviendo a la trama, está claro que la película tiene una fuerte crítica social a todo lo que son los estándares de belleza y lo que son capaces de hacer las mujeres para verse jóvenes de nuevo, y no solo mujeres, también puede afectar a los hombres, en menor medida pero los hay. Cómo son capaces de poner en riesgo sus vidas por una promesa que no te da garantías de nada porque claramente puede salir mal.
Returning to the plot, it is clear that the film has a strong social criticism to all that are the standards of beauty and what women are capable of doing to look young again, and not only women, it can also affect men, to a lesser extent but there are. How they are capable of putting their lives at risk for a promise that gives you no guarantee of anything because it can clearly go wrong.

A mí me llamó mucho la atención la poca información con la que contaba la actriz de esta sustancia y lo arriesgada que fue para inyectarse así sin más, y encima todo lo otro. Tampoco había muchas instrucciones de cómo proceder, me pareció medio fantasioso que supiera todo lo que tenía que hacer con las herramientas dadas, ya que no había mucha más información de lo que tenía que hacer con ellas. Fue algo instintivo.
I was very struck by how little information the actress had about this substance and how risky she was to inject herself just like that, and on top of everything else. There were also not many instructions on how to proceed, I thought it was a bit fanciful that she knew everything she had to do with the given tools, since there was not much more information on what she had to do with them. It was an instinctive thing.
Visualmente me pareció increíble, hay muy buenas producciones de este estilo. Quizá es un poco más grotesca y gore que otras, pero me parece que cada cuadro seguía su función. También me agrado el apartado sonoro, sin dudas, en el cine se debe de haber apreciado más, ya que resaltan los sonidos de los ambientes para generar mayor impacto e incomodidad.
Visually I found it incredible, very good productions of this style. Perhaps it is a little more grotesque and gore than others, but it seems to me that each frame followed its function. I also liked the sound section, without a doubt, in the cinema it should have been appreciated more, since they highlight the sounds of the environments to generate greater impact and discomfort.

Me pareció una historia muy interesante y logró atraparme desde el inicio. Es un poco larga, más de dos horas de película, pero se me pasaron rápido. No la sentí pesada ni nada, al contrario, quería saber cómo iba a resultar todo al final. Este fue muy grotesco también, quedé muy sorprendida, la verdad que las escenas finales si estuvieron sacadas desde mis pesadillas, eran bastante impresionantes. Pero bueno, considero que tuvo un buen cierre.
I found it a very interesting story and it managed to grab me from the beginning. It's a bit long, more than two hours of movie, but it went by fast. I didn't feel it was heavy or anything, on the contrary, I wanted to know how everything was going to turn out in the end. This one was also very grotesque, I was very surprised, the truth is that the final scenes were really taken from my nightmares, they were quite impressive. But well, I think it had a good ending.
Aunque la película no explica muchas cosas, deja todo a la libre interpretación y creo que su principal objetivo fue el que nombre al principio: hacer una crítica social a los estándares de belleza. Fue una muy buena película para reflexionar acerca de este tema.
Although the film doesn't explain many things, it leaves everything to free interpretation and I think its main objective was the one I named at the beginning: to make a social criticism of beauty standards. It was a very good film to reflect on this topic.
