Worth The Watch? Carry-on (2024) || Movie Review.

In my previous post I made mention that I would watch the Christmas I was supposed to watch last year at anything regardless of the timing. So this movie was on my watchlist for the Christmas period which time didn't permit me to watch at that time.

Yesterday I was agitated with what happened in the crypto space, so I decided watched a movie to calm down the nerves 😑.

This movie was a fun watch for me. However, my initial plan was to calm myself down, but that was not the case. Throughout the duration of this movie, my anxiety and adrenaline pump went off the roof. The suspense and tension of this movie got to me. I felt like leaping into the scenes of the movie and taking control. That's how agitated I was.

”Carry-on” is an action thriller that was distributed by Netflix and produced by Dylan Clark. It was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by T. J. Fixman. It starred Taron Egerton, Sofia Carson, Danielle Deadwyler, Theo Rossi, Logan Marshall-Green and Jason Bateman.

Little About The Plot.

It's Christmas eve, Los Angeles buzzing with activities here and there. Not long we are introduced into Ethan Kopek’s life who is a TSA officer at Los Angeles International Airport. His pregnant girlfriend, Nora, encourages him to reapply and pursue his dream of becoming a police officer which he had attempted some years back but was rejected due to concealing his father's criminal record. Ethan agreed to pursue that path again.

So Ethan and his girlfriend went to work on Christmas that day at Los Angeles International Airport. Upon arrival, Ethan changed his mind about the earlier request of his girlfriend. He then went request his supervisor, Phil to assign him to manage a baggage-scanning lane, hoping to demonstrate his merit for a promotion. Phil reluctantly granted his request.

Not long into his shift, Ethan receives an earbud, through which he is contacted by a terrorist/mercenary who used Ethan background and the amount of people in the airport to blackmail him to let a specific carry-on travelling bag pass through the scanner. This mercenary also promise to assassinate his pregnant girlfriend. How will Ethan handle this situation? Will the Mercenary be caught? And who is mysterious mercenary?.

My Review And Rating.

We know how most of the time Netflix fail to impress it's audience but for this movie, I say they went out of their comfort zone and brought a Christmas themed 90s thriller to our screen.

The movie started off normal, and slow but that did last for even 30mins before we were sucked into the scenes of chaos, tension and suspense. The storytelling of this movie was done in an excellent and expert way. It was unexpected. The pace was that a little fast, packed with this high tension that would make feel like taking matters into your own hands. If you easily agitated I recommend you dont see the movie. It was both entertaining and unsettling at the same time.

Our Kingsman spy actor, Taron Egerton who acted as Ethan Kopek, was flawed, but became likeable towards the middle of the movie. I loved how his character transformed a disillusioned TSA officer to a heroic man who is hell bent on saving his girlfriend, the massive people at the airport and a get the terrorist/mercanary. This transformation made the movie intriguing and compelling.

Seeing Jason Bateman as the Mercenary was excellent. I never thought I would see him in a villain role. He acted his role perfect well that he me annoyed with him in some scenes. He was that good. I loved how he was able to play, a coldhearted and ruthless mercanary. Also, other supporting characters were fantastic, especially
the detective.

I love two things about this movie. Firstly, it delivered action without any emphasis or CGI added to burst its intensity. It was practical, real, convincing and relatable. Also the action scenes were authentic. Secondly, it was able to balance action and suspense with natural emotional mannerism.

Rating this movie, I will give it 7 out of 10 stars. It was entertaining, interesting, thrilling and suspenseful. I enjoyed watching it. It was worth the time though it was not the right movie for me at that time.

If you enjoy watching movies like Die Hard, I recommend you watch this soon and I hope you enjoy it. If you have seen it before, was it a thrilling experience for you?
