Who came first? The heroes or the villains?

Few minutes ago I was reading the post OCD Community Boost Contest #5: Highlighting Movies & TV Shows by @ocd and start thinking who are my favorite villains, since I like that topic I could write a big list of names. Most of the time people like actor/actress performance more than the character itself, for example: Ledger's Joker, Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, Joaquin Phoenix's Joker, Tom Hardy's Bane, and so on... but the following villains are my favorites for their story rather than the actor's performance.

Thanos

source

Thanos is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He was created by writer-artist Jim Starlin, and made his first appearance in The Invincible Iron Man #55 (cover dated February 1973). An alien warlord from the moon Titan, Thanos is regarded as one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, and has clashed with many heroes including the Avengers, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Fantastic Four, and the X-Men. While usually portrayed as an evil-bent villain, many stories have alternatively depicted Thanos as having a twisted moral compass and thinking of his actions as justified.

Played by Josh Brolin in Avengers: Infinity War.

Ozymandias

source

Ozymandias (real name Adrian Alexander Veidt) is a fictional anti-villain in the American graphic novel miniseries Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, published by DC Comics. Named "Ozymandias" in the manner of Ramesses II, his name recalls the famous poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley, which takes as its theme the fleeting nature of empire and is excerpted as the epigraph of one of the chapters of Watchmen.

Played by Matthew Goode in Watchmen (movie) and by Jeremy Irons in the TV Show.

Warning: Spoiler

What like the most of these characters is the twisted moral, Thanos is determined to commit mass genocide for the good of the world, he believes that by eliminating half of the population the world will have more life, otherwise natural resources will not be enough for all living beings and it will be total destruction. Adrian Veidt has a similar thought, he decided to murder 3 million people for the good of the world, avoiding a nuclear war between the US and Russia, and the world.

I'm not a comic book villain. Do you seriously think I would explain my master stroke to you if there were even the slightest possibility you could affect the outcome? I triggered it 35 minutes ago. -- Adrian Veidt

A world united in peace... there had to be sacrifice. -- Adrian Veidt

Bonus

Jack Gleeson's Joffrey Baratheon. Never hated a character more than this guy. Amazing actor.

So, who are your favorite villains in movies or TV series and why?

Sort:

Thanos twisted moral uses a logic argument to have you question his approach and how righteous it actually is. Joffrey on the other hand is just so despicable.

Yeah! Same as Ozymandias.

Joffrey on the other hand is just so despicable.

Indeed!
