A dramatic road movie from 1984 written and directed by Wim Wenders.
In the Texas desert a man with a ragged appearance walks with no apparent direction, sunstroke, thirsty, exhausted and probably starving the man collapses and is attended by a doctor who asks for his name or for some explanation, but the man does not answer any questions, he just remains silent. The doctor gets some information, and makes a call, on the other side of the phone is the man’s brother, who travels from Los Angeles to Texas as fast as he can to find his brother, who disappeared four years before leaving his four-year-old son in the care of him and his wife, but when he arrives, his brother is already gone.
Paris, Texas is a film about family and its bonds, about parenthood, about obsessions, about internal conflicts, about personal dilemmas, about love, and the search to fix what was broken, to make peace with the past, and to understand that there are things that will never be the same again.
An incredible film, which manages to create a dramatic story and at the same time execute a narrative with some mystery, with fantastic shots, beautiful cinematography by Robby Müller and great music by Ry Cooder.
With an impeccable script written by L. M. Kit Carson and Sam Shepard, the film captures the attention from the beginning and with a melancholic tone drives the story to a great climax and resolution.
Harry Dean Stanton offers a good starring performance, Nastassja Kinski is phenomenal in the time that she is on the screen, and Dean Stockwell, Aurore Clément and Hunter Carson play very well too.
An interesting film that I would recommend to anyone who likes movies and good stories.
