An Aesthetic Psychological Horror Movie : Last Night In Soho

Hello my dear friends.
In this post i want to write a review about a movie i just watch last night in Netflix. I must warn that this post might content a spoiler. The title of the movie is "Last Night In Soho". This movie was released back in 2021 with psychological horror as the genre. For some reaso, i saw many of my friends posting this movie poster in their social media so i am interested to check what is this movie about. I dont like watching horror movies with ghost and all of the jumspscares. I think that life is already horror story enough and i just dont have he strong heart to get shocked every 5 minutes. Psychological horror in the otherhand is something i actually very interested in. Sadly, we rarely find psychological horror movie.

This movie is about a lovely young lady with dream of becoming a fashion designer in a big city, as she came from a rural area. She got accepted in a fashion school in London. As typical, she was treated like a country bumpkin and find it hard to adapted in a big city with all the young kids who love to drinks and party. She moved out from tthe dorm and rent a room in a lovely old lady house. This young lady started getting haunted while she was staying in this room. It seems like she was gifted and able to see things other people cant see and so, when she was asleep she lived this other young lady life. I think that because she's lonely and this other lady has the same mindset like her, which is to make it big in this big city, she resonate a lot and feel a lot of compassion to this other lady She even started to changed her appearance to make it similar with this beautiful lady in her dream. Then, its started getting worse as she started to experience the horror this other lady experience and actually make her killed in the end. She was started getting frustated because she wanted to solve her murder while getting haunted by so many faceless ghost. Well, long story short the other lady that she saw killed is actually the old lady she was living with. Rather than getting killed, this old lady is actually the killer of countless men.

Okay, this movie is pleasant to watch. Every actor and actress in this movie is pretty and have amazing acting skills. All of the scene shots were aesthetically taken and i must give an applause to the most beautiful scene in this movie, which is the dancing scene because i dont know how they make those transitions but it was hella cool. When the main character life fell into chaos, i feel like i also get the craziness just by watching it. I feel her distress, the terror, and the feeling like your life is falling apart like you will never be able to be happy again. All the weird things she did in this movie is actually feels justified because i can just imagine if we're in the position of her, it might what most people decided to do too. Its interesting to see a horror movie where the main character still able to act pretty logical despite her condition. I really like that she decided to go to police and in the end, she just want to go back to her home and away from the craziness and terror she got in the city.

The thing disturbs me the most about the movie is actually the plot twist in the ending when they make the old lady is actually the lady that haunted her. I think it doesnt make any sense eventhough they try to make it make sense with this line from the old lady whic saying that the young her died in that room (figuratively, meaning that her innocence and dream was gone) and it makes her killed all those men that ruined her dream and life. It just doesnt add up, because what the main character saw is that she was actually getting killed by stabbed so many times by her pimp. This lady vision is usually true to reality so i dont get why she saw something so opposite from the reality. They want to make it as a plot twist but it just leaves us hanging with more question. The other reason was because it was so weird that she doesnt know the name of the old lady she lives in with. Is it even possible to not know the name of the owner of the house you're living in? WIth renting a room, shouldnt you make a written contact? They also didnt exchange number? If only she know the name of the old lady she was living with, all of this crazy problem will be gone.

This movie seems intriguing and interesting to see. I love how it is horror-like and still has scenes of dancing.

I was also disappointed with this film, not only because of the things you mention that don't make any sense but because it seemed to me that they wasted the talent of two very young and very talented actresses in a very poor production and script.
Great review, greetings
