Recently, I watched the movie Anora, because it was the movie that received the most awards, it took in the night of the Oscars 2025 Awards that took place a few days ago. I must say that this kind of movies really catch my attention, it is one of my favorite genres, although the truth is that I was not attracted to it at first, but I decided to give it a chance after receiving five statuettes from the most important awards in the world of film and entertainment. When I saw the film, I asked myself the question: Did Anora deserve the Oscar for Best Picture? Well, in this opportunity I am going to give you my opinion about the film and answer this question, only from my personal opinion, not as a professional critic.
Recientemente, me vi la película Anora, pues fue la película más galardones, se llevó en la noche de los Premios Oscars 2025 que se llevó hace unos días. Debo decir que esta clase de películas me llaman mucho la atención, es uno de mis géneros favoritos, aunque la verdad es que no me atraía en un principio, pero decidí darle una oportunidad tras recibir cinco estatuillas de los premios más importantes del mundo del cine y el entretenimiento. Al ver la película me planteé la pregunta ¿Merecía Anora el Oscar a la mejor película? Pues en esta oportunidad les voy a dar mi opinión sobre el filme y responder a esta interrogante, solo desde mi opinión personal, no como una crítica profesional.
The movie was from last year, directed by Sean Baker, who was also in charge of the script. This is an independent film, in the genre of drama and comedy, which deals with what for many is an interesting topic, having a good reception and reviews in general, from what I read in the networks and some publications in the Movies & TV Shows community. What is the film about? The production tells us about Anora, a prostitute who meets a young Russian man whose parents have a lot of money, which the girl begins to live one of her best moments after not having had an easy life. Many tend to criticize the girls who dedicate themselves to this work, but as the saying goes, “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone”. As human beings we are no one to judge people, even if it doesn't seem right to us, we never know why many women dedicate themselves to this life.
La película fue del año pasado, dirigida por Sean Baker, quien también fue el encargado del guion. Esta es una película independiente, del género de drama y comedia, que trata lo que para muchos es un tema interesante, teniendo un buen recibimiento y reseñas en general, por lo que leí en las redes y algunas publicaciones en la comunidad Movies & TV Shows. ¿De qué trata el filme? La producción nos habla de Anora, una prostituta quien conoce a un joven ruso cuyos padres poseen mucho dinero, lo cual la chica empieza a vivir uno de sus mejores momentos tras no haber tenido una vida fácil. Muchos suelen criticar a las chicas que se dedican a este trabajo, pero como dice el dicho “Quien este libre de pecado, que tire la primera piedra”. Como seres humanos nos somos nadie para juzgar a las personas, por más que no nos parezca bien, nunca sabemos el porqué muchas mujeres se dedican a esa vida.

What I did like about the plot is that it was a light film and not as predictable as one might imagine. A story that shows us the relationship between poor people and rich people, all the damage that the latter can cause them. Anora is a girl who knows what she is deciding to do, she has her feet on the ground, but many times we forget that we are all human beings and at some point we can't delude ourselves. A movie that I think is ok, it is quite original although I must say that it is not the best I have seen last year, like Jury Number 2 which is a movie that was one of the best I saw in 2024 and that did not have any Oscar nomination, not even Nicholas Hoult who played the role wonderfully. Don't get me wrong, every film has its merits, but many times we weigh the criteria for nominations and winners.
Lo que sí me gustó de la trama es que fue una película ligera y no tan predecible como uno se pudiera imaginar. Una historia que nos muestra la relación entre las personas pobres y las personas ricas, todo el daño que estas segundas les pueden causar. Anora es una chica que sabe a lo que decida, tiene los pies sobre la tierra, pero muchas veces nos olvidamos que todos somos seres humanos y en algún momento no podemos ilusionar. Una película que me parece que está bien, es bastante original aunque debo decir que no es lo mejor que me he visto del año pasado, como el Jurado Número 2 quien es una película que fue de lo mejor que vi del 2024 y que no tuvo ninguna nominación a los Premios Óscar, siquiera Nicholas Hoult quien interpretó maravillosamente el papel. No me malentiendan, cada película tiene sus méritos, pero muchas veces nos ponemos a pesar cuáles son los criterios que se basan para las nominaciones y los ganadores.
The story itself is good, but I don't think it's the best I've seen this year; however, I think it's quite original and with a worthwhile ending. What I find most transcendent in Anora is its message, a modern and very funny story if I could say so. The plot is worth it, although if I could complain about something it is the dialogues, many seemed boring and I expected more, but in the end in a balance you can say that a story that fulfills its purpose very well, it shows us how young people do not mature and do not assume the consequences of their actions, especially when their parents are rich and everyone solves it with power and money. Sean Baker did a great job in directing the film, winning the Oscar for best director.
La historia en sí es buena, pero no creo que sea lo mejor que he visto en el año; sin embargo, me quedo que es bastante original y con una final que sí vale la pena. Lo que más me parece trascendente dentro de Anora es su mensaje, una historia moderna y muy divertida si se podría decir así. La trama consideró que si vale la pena, aunque si me podría quejar de algo es de sus diálogos, muchos me parecían aburridos y me esperaba más, pero al final en un balance se puede decir que una historia que cumple muy bien su cometido, nos muestra como los jóvenes no maduran y no asumen las consecuencias de sus actos, más cuando sus padres son ricos y todos lo solucionan con el poder y el dinero. Sean Baker hizo un gran trabajo en la dirección del filme, ganándose el premio Óscar como mejor director.

I thought the performances of the cast of Anora were very good, where Mikey Madison brought Anora to life and took the best actress award, which was well deserved. On the other hand, we have Mark Eidelstein as Ivan, the young Russian whose parents were wealthy and powerful, a young man who likes to live the crazy life, who wanted to do everything he could to free himself from his parents' control, no matter what it would cost and if they end up hurting someone. We also have Yura Borisov as Igor, who was one of the boy's bodyguards and who had a very good participation in his supporting role in the story. In general, a very well selected cast in each of their roles and in what the story and the director, Sean Baker, asked of them.
Las actuaciones del reparto de Anora me parecieron muy buenas, donde Mikey Madison le dio vida a Anora y se llevó el premio de mejor actriz, que sí fue muy merecida. Por otro lado, tenemos a Mark Eidelstein como Iván, el joven ruso cuyos padres eran adinerados de mucho poder, un joven que les gusta vivir la vida loca, quien quería hacer todo lo posible de liberarse del control de sus padres, sin importarle lo que costara y si terminan hiriendo a alguien. También tenemos a Yura Borísov como Ígor, quien era uno de los guardaespaldas del chico y quien tuvo una participación muy buena en su papel secundario dentro de la historia. En general, un cast muy bien seleccionado en cada uno de sus papeles y en lo que le pedía la historia y el director, Sean Baker.
The cinematographer for the film Anora was Drew Daniels, doing a great job. I loved the different scenarios where the development of the story took place, the costumes were quite modern and striking. The soundtrack was quite good, very much in line with the story. Anyway, Anora is a good movie in general and even more so when it's independent. Is it the best I saw? Of the genre you could say yes, overall no, where I consider films like The Conclave and A Complete Stranger were better as a personal opinion. What I can say is that it is a movie that I recommend 100% that you see, because I don't know, maybe it's not the most memorable in the world of cinema, but you can get to like it, with a great message.
El encargado de la fotografía de la película Anora fue Drew Daniels, haciendo un gran trabajo. Me encantaron los diferentes escenarios donde se llevó a cabo el desarrollo de la historia, los vestuarios bastante modernos y llamativos. La banda sonora estuvo bastante bien, muy acorde a la historia. En fin, Anora es una buena película en general y más cuando es independiente. ¿Es lo mejor que vi? Del género se podría decir que sí, en general no, donde considero que películas como El Cónclave y Un Completo Desconocidos fueron mejores como opinión personal. Lo que sí puedo decir es que es una película que sí les recomiendo al 100% que la veas, porque no sé, tal vez no sea lo más memorable en el mundo del cine, pero sí que te puede llegar a gustar, con un gran mensaje.
Did Anora deserve the Oscar for Best Picture? Well, who am I to say that it didn't deserve it, I guess the voters saw something in it and in the end they chose it as the best. What I can say is that for me A Complete Stranger is a film that from my point of view is better than Anora and deserved this award. Even as I told you before, The Conclave also seemed to me an excellent film, but I was a little disappointed by its ending, since it was predictable and that is where Anora perhaps ended up winning. Anyway, if it deserved it, Anora did deserve it, since it is a film, but since the award is for the best production of the year, I don't know if it is, it depends on the taste and opinion of each viewer.
¿Merecía Anora el Óscar a la mejor película? Pues quién soy para decir que no lo merecía, supongo que algo le vieron los votantes que al final la terminaron eligiendo como la mejor. Lo que sí es que puede decir que para mí Un completo desconocido es una película que desde mi punto de vista es mejor que Anora y que merecía este premio. Incluso como les dije anteriormente, El Cónclave también me pareció excelente película, solo que su final me terminó decepcionando un poco, puesto que fue predecible y allí es donde tal vez Anora se terminó imponiendo. En fin, de merecer, Anora sí lo merecía, pues es una película, pero como el premio es a la mejor producción del año, eso sí que no sé si lo es, depende del gusto y opinión de cada espectador.
