Videogames lore can be vast, but also messy. Dota: Dragon's blood has reached a third season (book 3) and with it, it brings a closure to the story of Davion the Dragon Knight and princess Mirana. I loved the series from the start with its imperfections (like voices not being up to the scene and expressions), and the majestic dragons it portraits. By now, I have come to love some stories, hate another, and long for mysteries unveiled and resolution of conflicts. In this post, I share what this book brings and my impressions about it.
La tradición de los videojuegos puede ser amplia, pero también desordenada. Dota: Dragon's Blood ha llegado a una tercera temporada (libro 3) y con ella, pone fin a la historia de Davion the Dragon Knight y la princesa Mirana. Me encantó la serie desde el principio con sus imperfecciones (como voces que no están a la altura de la escena y las expresiones) y los majestuosos dragones que retrata. A estas alturas, he llegado a amar algunas historias, a odiar otras y anhelo los misterios desvelados y la resolución de conflictos. En este post comparto lo que trae este libro y mis impresiones al respecto.
We come from a second season reaching a climax in terms of the macro story. Not only we learn about the dragon souls and how they are connected with the universe, but we also learn more about the intentions of this fight and the factions trying to use the dragon power to shape the world according to their wishes. In the middle of all this is Mirana, the eye, the sun princess, the eternal. From that point forward into season 3, Mirana will keep being the focus of the attention. She has awakened her powers and rules like the empress of the Sun. The only event that awaits is the battle between the Demon Terrorblade and Slyrak, the Fire Dragon.
Venimos de una segunda temporada alcanzando un clímax en cuanto a la macrohistoria. No solo aprendemos sobre las almas de dragón y cómo están conectadas con el universo, sino que también aprendemos más sobre las intenciones de esta lucha y las facciones que intentan usar el poder del dragón para moldear el mundo según sus deseos. En medio de todo esto está Mirana, el ojo, la princesa del sol, la eterna. Desde ese momento hasta la temporada 3, Mirana seguirá siendo el centro de atención. Ha despertado sus poderes y gobierna como la emperatriz del Sol. El único evento que espera es la batalla entre Demon Terrorblade y Slyrak, el Dragón de Fuego.
So, the peak of this story presents itself at the beginning of season 3. The feared ending and shaping of the world still happens, but not because of Terrorblade but the Invoker. All this time, he was trying to use the power of the dragon souls to create a different world; one in which Filomena, her beloved daughter, could exist. He succeeded and a new world begins with everyone alive including her daughter. This alternate reality even has Marci in it! (points to Dota for that).The revelations about how the world can be reshaped are monstrous to say the least, and the invoker seems to have lost all humanity expect the parts which contain his love for Filomena.
Entonces, el punto culminante de esta historia se presenta al comienzo de la temporada 3. El temido final y la configuración del mundo aún ocurren, pero no por Terrorblade sino por Invoker. Todo este tiempo, estuvo tratando de usar el poder de las almas de dragón para crear un mundo diferente; uno en el que podría existir Filomena, su amada hija. Lo logró y comienza un nuevo mundo con todos vivos, incluida su hija. ¡Esta realidad alternativa incluso tiene a Marci en ella! (señala a Dota para eso). Las revelaciones sobre cómo se puede remodelar el mundo son monstruosas por decir lo menos, y el invocador parece haber perdido toda la humanidad excepto las partes que contienen su amor por Filomena.
The peculiar thing about this season is that it contains a double climax or double peak in the story: at its beginning with the battle against Terrorblade, and during its ending with the characters facing what they tried to avoid all along; a different world succumbing to its imperfections. This is not a typical storyline, but what I like about it is that it lets you experience an outcome that otherwise would had been just the end of a story. So, in a way this is an after party that rewards us with more understanding of the world of Dota.
Lo peculiar de esta temporada es que contiene un doble clímax o doble pico en la historia: en su inicio con la batalla contra Terrorblade, y durante su final con los personajes enfrentándose a lo que intentaron evitar todo el tiempo; un mundo diferente sucumbiendo a sus imperfecciones. Esta no es una historia típica, pero lo que me gusta de ella es que te permite experimentar un resultado que de otro modo hubiera sido solo el final de una historia. Entonces, en cierto modo, esta es una fiesta posterior que nos recompensa con una mayor comprensión del mundo de Dota.
Something I ended up loving was the addition of Filomena. The Invoker creates a world in which Filomena reaches adulthood and lives a life alongside his father. She becomes a magician just like daddy. After watching season 3, it is understandable why the Invoker did everything in his power to create a world in which she could exist. Her passion, dedication, tenderness, strength, inquiry spirit, and morals during the development of this story make you like her a lot; at least that is what it produced in me. Nonetheless, the fates are cruel, an even in this world she was not going to be able to stay. Filomena's presence is the answer to that huge "what if" that has accompanied the Invoker's plot all along.
Algo que terminé amando fue la incorporación de Filomena. The Invoker crea un mundo en el que Filomena alcanza la edad adulta y vive una vida junto a su padre. Se convierte en maga como papá. Después de ver la temporada 3, es comprensible por qué Invoker hizo todo lo que estuvo a su alcance para crear un mundo en el que ella pudiera existir. Su pasión, entrega, ternura, fuerza, espíritu indagador y moral durante el desarrollo de esta historia hacen que te guste mucho; al menos eso es lo que produjo en mí. Sin embargo, los destinos son crueles, y ni siquiera en este mundo iba a poder quedarse. La presencia de Filomena es la respuesta a ese enorme "qué pasaría si" que ha acompañado la trama de Invoker todo el tiempo.
The most intricated part was Princess Mirana being able to remember everything. As she described it, it was like having two souls inside her: one that remembered all that happened in the previous world, and one of the current world with all its differences. Mirana certainly displaces Davion as the leading character in this season, and we see the new world through her eyes.
Some other interesting changes was seeing Fymryn being the current goddess of the moon, Lina being a good servant of the realm, Marci alive safe and sound!, Luna at the service of the sun empress, and even the past sun ruler being alive. After some time, you adapt to the new world and want it to keep going, but there is the final truth still to be discovered.
La parte más complicada fue que la princesa Mirana pudo recordar todo. Como ella lo describió, era como tener dos almas dentro de ella: una que recordaba todo lo que sucedió en el mundo anterior y otra del mundo actual con todas sus diferencias. Mirana ciertamente desplaza a Davion como el personaje principal de esta temporada, y vemos el nuevo mundo a través de sus ojos.
Algunos otros cambios interesantes fueron ver a Fymryn como la actual diosa de la luna, Lina como una buena sirvienta del reino, ¡Marci viva sana y salva!, Luna al servicio de la emperatriz del sol e incluso el pasado gobernante del sol vivo. Después de un tiempo, te adaptas al nuevo mundo y quieres que continúe, pero aún queda la verdad final por descubrir.
The end can be described as nothing less than apocalyptical with divine primordial sources fighting against each other to save the entire reality. It can feel messy with the two timelines, realities, double storylines for characters, and more, but everything converges into one reality: the world has been re-shaped thousands of times by the invoker in his search for one that allows his little girl to be alive. The moral dilemma is of astronomical proportions with that man since he doesn't care to sacrifice countless of souls just for the one thing existence denied to him. Can we say he is the true villain of Dota? I believe we can. Terrorblade is a known demon with a purpose, but the invoker was always a mystery who ended up being even worse for the world than any demon.
El final puede describirse como nada menos que apocalíptico con fuentes primordiales divinas que luchan entre sí para salvar toda la realidad. Puede parecer confuso con las dos líneas de tiempo, las realidades, las historias dobles de los personajes y más, pero todo converge en una sola realidad: el invocador ha remodelado el mundo miles de veces en su búsqueda de uno que le permita a su pequeña niña estar vivo. El dilema moral es de proporciones astronómicas con ese hombre, ya que no le importa sacrificar innumerables almas solo por lo único que la existencia le niega. ¿Podemos decir que es el verdadero villano de Dota? Creo que podemos. Terrorblade es un demonio conocido con un propósito, pero el invocador siempre fue un misterio que terminó siendo incluso peor para el mundo que cualquier demonio.
This story leaves a with a ray of light. A single moment of hope occurs in the last images when Mirana implies with a gesture that life goes on. That almost made it up for killing everybody again... The world of Dota is complicated, but is full of diverse emotions and epic fights. I loved the show even though I never played the game. Its lore was without doubt worthy of an animated work such as this series of three books. I do recommend it, and I hope more lore comes to life to enjoy.
Esta historia deja un rayo de luz. Un único momento de esperanza se da en las últimas imágenes cuando Mirana insinúa con un gesto que la vida sigue. Eso casi lo compensó por matar a todos de nuevo... El mundo de Dota es complicado, pero está lleno de emociones diversas y peleas épicas. Me encantó el programa a pesar de que nunca jugué el juego. Su tradición era sin duda digna de una obra animada como esta serie de tres libros. Lo recomiendo, y espero que más tradición cobre vida para disfrutar.

I've not watched this, seems a lot like Sword Art Online. That invoker guy seems very troubled indeed. Well I've put it on my list thanks for sharing

Netflix tiene un bue catalogo de este genero de animación, a varias les quiero dar una mirada. esta son tres temporadas, me tomaría algo de tiempo verla. La que si tengo en mi lista y espero verla pronto, quizás el próximo fin de semana, es Arcane. Me han dicho maravillas de esa serie y tengo muchas ganas de verla ,además la animación se ve genial.
Arcane es muy buena. Tambien es nacida de un lore de videojuegos. Yo la pondria por encima de DOTA.
I haven't watch this series but OMG, the central character of the poster looks exactly like Guts from Berserk, that's what caugh my attention in the first place, but now reading you I believe I will give this series an opportunity.
