The lecturer is a Nigeria YouTube movie that was written, directed and published by one of Nigeria's finest movie producers Frederick Leonard.
Frederick Leonard has often been revard as the "Film Lord" in Nigeria's movie industry (Nollywood). This is because of his unequivocally sound contribution to the industry. Frederick Leonard is such a well-rounded actor in the industry so much so that there have technically not been any available roles in which he hasn't featured. Talking about love stories, Nigeria's indigenous cultures stories, war stories, as well as educational movie stories.
My attention caught the movie "The Lecturer" while I was scrolling through my Facebook page and then stumbled upon a short video of him where he was talking about what inspired the movie, where he explained that his wife actually planted that story in his head before he picked up his pen and started writing the script.
The most fascinating thing about this movie was the fact that it captured the exact struggles and huddles that the average Nigerian students go through in the hands of their lecturers in the various tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The fact that I could relate directly to this through my experiences during my time in the university even made it more fascinating for me.
The story started with a young educationist who was employed as a lecturer at a university that was founded by his father. He was a well disciplined lecturer who was after the academic success of his students. Some might share the sentiment that he might have been too extreme with his disciplinary principles, but it still doesn't take away the fact that his actions are always geared towards.
The stardom of this story was captured when Miss Favorite Idowu (Sarian Martins) was assigned to the lecturer Dr. Jerry (Frederick Leonard) as her final year project supervisor. She was a brilliant student between her first three years in the university but met a docile-like self towards the final days of her study in the institution. Her father was down with a health condition that required a clinical surgery for the poor man to stay alive. The family was wretched and couldn't afford the surgery seeing that it was just her and the father alone. She then struggled between doing menial jobs and going to school. These menial jobs she used to feed her father, get supplements to subside her father's pains as well as try to foot in some academic bills - such a tough existence to behold but almost like a normal life of some average Nigerian students in reality.
Things got to a point where she couldn't take things further. She had to make a choice between continuing and finishing her tertiary education or dropping out of school and focusing on alternatives to fix her father's health permanently. But this was when her punctuality in school activities came to her rescue.
Idowu has been one of the most punctual students in classes. She is so punctual that she never misses any class. She might come to class late given some circumstances but missing out completely out of class was never heard of her. This made Dr. Jerry notice her absence the very first day she didn't come to class. It was then that he got into self thought to find out why exactly.
Dr. Jerry got to discover the truth and Idowu's predicaments and decided to help her out. He paid for her father's surgery and helped her to get back her brilliant self. Idowu has always been an intelligent student, so finding her intelligent self didn't take that long. She ended up writing one of the best thesis of her graduation project. But further, she fell in love with Dr. Jerry and they got into a relationship afterwards.
This movie demonstrated the social significance of an impact that helping one another can have on people. By helping others, you can help them discover their lost self and make them embrace who they used to be or who they truly are.
There are lots of lessons to learn in this masterpiece created by Frederick Leonard. You can check out the movie here.
