Freeform's new series, Siren, begins with the accidental capture of a sea creature. From there, things take a turn in order to find the missing Mermaid and bring her back to her sister. The show's first two episodes have been very successful, with characters such as Ben and Xander gaining fans' attention. The main star of the show is Ryn, who is the mysterious Mermaid who is on the hunt for her sister after she gets captured by the Navy Seals.

Ryn is alone and has no idea what's going on, so she's not afraid to look for her sister even though she can't communicate with humans. Mermaids are well-known folklore creatures, but there are no TV shows that deal with this subject. This gives Siren an advantage since this is something that's completely different from what's been seen before.

If Ms. Hawkins is right that mermaids are as intelligent as humans, then I hope that Ryn will eventually be able to communicate with everyone. There has been very little dialogue between her and the other characters, but I'm sure viewers will get attached to her character.
While she’s a vicious creature who’s causing trouble on land, she’s also trying to find her sister. It’s easy to sympathize with her because she doesn’t know how to fix the situation, but she has a strong bond with her sister and her loyalty to her.

Ben’s family lived in Bristol Cove during the past, and I liked the mystery surrounding them. He’s the type of kid who would rather spend his time helping other animals instead of being a part of the family. I also love how he learns the truth about his family and helps Ryn out.
Chris, the poor guy, is being kept sedated and under constant supervision in some secret abandoned hospital so that nobody figures out what happened to him. The confusing part is why did they not just heal him and let him go? Why the need to keep him sedated all of the time? It’s not like the Navy would have to explain to Chris what happened. They easily could’ve fixed his wounds and then brought him back home and told him some lie about how he ended up with them.
There has to be a specific reason why they are continuing to keep him there. Do they think there could be possible side effects from a mermaid bite? If Chris can’t figure out a way to find out what’s going on, then there’s a possibility that he could never escape. I look forward to seeing what the rest of this season has in store for us.
Other Thoughts:

I enjoyed the bonding moment between Ryn, Ben and Maddie immensely.
It’s evident that the guy watching Ryn’s sister (Dana) has conflicts about what they’re doing. I hope we get to see him struggle with the guilt of it.
The animation on Ryn’s transformation from human to mermaid is hands downs fantastic!
