Hace un tiempo lo dije y es que estamos en una época en donde parece que la cultura cinematográfica a nivel de peliculas y series está llegando a un punto de estancamiento porque lo que estamos viendo, cada vez más seguido, son remakes de historias que obviamente ya fueron contadas. En esta oportunidad estamos ante Road House, una historia de 1989 protagonizada por el gran Patrick Swayze y que en su momento fue realmente buena. Ahora estamos ante esta misma trama pero en los zapatos de Jake Gyllenhaal acompañado por un gran Conor McGregor, ex UFC. Tenía rato queriendo ver esta película porque he leido mucho por acá que es una que vale la pena y que se disfruta mucho y después de haberlo hecho pues tengo que coincidir con los que opinaron de esa manera, el film cubrió bastante mis expectativas.
I said it a while ago and it is that we are in a time where it seems that the film culture at the level of movies and series is reaching a point of stagnation because what we are seeing, more and more often, are remakes of stories that obviously have already been told. This time we are facing Road House, a 1989 story starring the great Patrick Swayze, which in its time was really good. Now we are facing this same plot but in the shoes of Jake Gyllenhaal accompanied by a great Conor McGregor, former UFC. I had been wanting to see this movie for a while because I have read a lot around here that it is a worthwhile and enjoyable film and after having done it, I have to agree with those who felt that way, the film pretty much met my expectations.
¿De que va esto? - básicamente tenemos la historia de Elwood Delton (Jake Gyllenhaal), un ex luchador de UFC que decidió dejar el octágono atrás para tratar de comenzar una vida nueva, una que lo aparte un poco de la persona en la que se convierte cuando tenía los guantes puestos. En esa busqueda termina en Florida, en los Cayos, trabajando como el seguridad de un bar. La cosa es que él llega allí un poco engañado porque rápidamente se dará cuenta que aquel trabajo es más peligroso de lo que le habían comentado y ofrecido. Por una extraña razón siempre hay mal borrachos con los que le toca lidiar hasta que todo cambia y el grado de peligrosidad aumenta una buena noche.
What's it about? - Basically we have the story of Elwood Delton (Jake Gyllenhaal), a former UFC fighter who decides to leave the octagon behind to try to start a new life, one that will take him away from the person he became when he had the gloves on. In that quest he ends up in Florida, in the Keys, working as security at a bar. The thing is that he arrives there a bit deceived because he quickly realizes that the job is more dangerous than he had been told and offered. For some strange reason there are always bad drunks he has to deal with until everything changes and the degree of danger increases one good night.
Resulta que detrás de aquel sitio lleno de playas y palmeras existe una familia que controla el lugar, por muchos años han sido los que han estado "invirtiendo" en el sitio únicamente para fines personales. Es una familia que opera cuál mafia y que tienen un objetivo entre ceja y ceja y hasta que no lo cumplan pues sus amenazas, extorsiones e intimidaciones no cesarán. Acá es donde entra Delton quien prácticamente sin quererlo termina metido en este problema y que debido a esa busqueda de querer ser una mejor persona tratará de ayudar en lo que pueda a esa gente. La trama se va por acá, es ver cómo este ex peleador de la UFC con todas sus habilidades hace todo lo posible para mantener a raya a Brandt (Billy Magnussen) y compañía.
It turns out that behind that site full of beaches and palm trees there is a family that controls the place, for many years they have been the ones who have been "investing" in the site only for personal purposes. It is a family that operates like a mafia and they have a goal between eyebrow and eyebrow and until they do not fulfill it, their threats, extortions and intimidations will not stop. This is where Delton enters, who practically without wanting to, ends up in this problem and due to this search of wanting to be a better person, he will try to help these people as much as he can. The plot goes this way, is to see how this former UFC fighter with all his skills does everything he can to keep Brandt (Billy Magnussen) and company at bay.
La trama en realidad estoy seguro que todos se la imaginan y es que no deja de ser genérica y plana, es la típica historia en donde "el salvador" llega a poner orden a una situación que estaba descontrolada y lo hace través de la justicia de los puños, una especie de anti bullying para que entienda mejor. No hay sorpresas en el andar de la película, tampoco noté plot twist y es que para mi no hace tanta falta porque creo que el verdadero atractivo del film es otro, es la acción, las peleas, hasta la comedia porque si, hay un ligero toque cómico en ciertos diálogos y situaciones. En lo personal y sabiendo perfectamente cómo iba a terminar todo la disfruté bastante, no te aburres porque siempre está pasando algo que hace que te mantengas atento.
The plot in reality I'm sure everyone imagines it and it is still generic and flat, it is the typical story where "the savior" comes to bring order to a situation that was out of control and does it through the justice of the fists, a kind of anti bullying for you to understand better. There are no surprises in the course of the film, I did not notice plot twist and for me it is not so necessary because I think the real attraction of the film is another, is the action, the fights, even the comedy because yes, there is a slight comic touch in certain dialogues and situations. Personally and knowing perfectly well how everything was going to end I enjoyed it a lot, you do not get bored because there is always something going on that makes you stay attentive.
Al final de cuentas esto es una película de peleas en donde tenemos a dos protagonistas que se manejan muy bien en esa área, por un lado Jake que no es la primera vez que hace un papel de este estilo y pues Conor que poco se puede decir de su amplia experiencia en el mundo de las artes marciales mixtas. Las escenas están muy bien hechas, las peleas son muy reales, en ocasiones hay una cámara POV al momento de los combates que se ve bastante bien y le da un toque más profesional y cool a toda la experiencia. Se nota mucho cuando un actor controla este mundo, todo sale más fluido y si a eso le sumas todo lo que McGregor es capaz de aportar pues el resultado termina siendo, por lo menos para mi, de calidad.
At the end of the day this is a fight movie where we have two protagonists who are very good in that area, on the one hand Jake who is not the first time he plays a role of this style and Conor who little can be said of his extensive experience in the world of mixed martial arts. The scenes are very well done, the fights are very real, sometimes there is a POV camera at the time of the fights that looks pretty good and gives a more professional and cool touch to the whole experience. It is very noticeable when an actor controls this world, everything comes out more fluid and if you add to that all that McGregor is able to contribute, the result ends up being, at least for me, of quality.
Hablar de los protagonistas es mencionar que Gyllenhaal es un muy buen actor y que la preparación física a la que se expuso para esto se nota mucho en ciertas escenas. Pero para mi el trabajo de McGregor es top, es un personaje que pensaría se parece mucho a como es él en la vida real, es difícil comparar que es ficción y que no porque la esencia de la interpretación es ser un poco patán, burlón, de esos que te importa poco ciertas cosas. Es un elenco raro porque vemos hasta Post Malone en una faceta totalmente distinta a lo que estamos acostumbrado a ver de él siendo cantante. Al final creo que tampoco es una película para deshojar a los personajes, es una para ver como la venganza y la justicia es impartida.
Talking about the protagonists is to mention that Gyllenhaal is a very good actor and that the physical preparation to which he was exposed for this is very noticeable in certain scenes. But for me McGregor's work is top, it is a character that I would think is very similar to how he is in real life, it is difficult to compare what is fiction and what is not because the essence of the interpretation is to be a bit of a jerk, mocking, of those who care little about certain things. It's a weird cast because we see even Post Malone in a totally different facet to what we are used to seeing of him being a singer. In the end I don't think it's a movie to rip on the characters either, it's one to see how revenge and justice is meted out.
A este film le doy 7.5/10. La trama al no tener nada extraordinario hace que se me quede un tanto corta. Pero repito, al final es una película para ver sin pensar mucho. Buenas interpretaciones tanto de Jake como de Conor, la verdad es que esa escena final de ellos con "Enter Sandman" de Matellica de fondo quedó muy buena y fue un cierre top. Está disponible en Prime Video y dura dos horas más o menos. Les dejo el tráiler por acá.
I give this film 7.5/10. The plot, not having anything extraordinary, makes it a little short for me. But I repeat, in the end it's a movie to watch without thinking too much. Good performances from both Jake and Conor, the truth is that the final scene of them with "Enter Sandman" by Matellica in the background was very good and was a top closure. It's available on Prime Video and it lasts two hours or so. I leave the trailer here.

Coincido contigo, la historia es plana y no ofrece nada novedoso y mucho menos un giro de tuercas para ponernos al borde del asiento impresionados, algo que se ha contado tantas veces no genera sorpresas, pero si genera gracia y risas, extrañamente te la pasas bien de principio a fin, yo tambien la disfrute mucho.
La comedia me sorprendió, ese toque que le metieron estuvo cool. Además de que el personaje de Conor también tenía lo suyo. Las peleas estuvieron a la altura, nunca me fastidié de verlas. Buena película, por lo menos entretenida es.

Está buena, hay gente que no le gusta Mcgregor pero creo que acá lo hace bien dentro de lo que cabe. Si te gusta el género si te la recomiendo.
